I have quite a bit of canadian tire money saved-up. However, no one has been able to use this ct money for in-store purchases during covid. Last week I again tried to use the ct money but was not allowed again. However, the cashier told me if i applied for a credit card at the refund counter CT would automatically take my ct money and credit my credit card account right away. This is a sneaky way of getting customers to apply for their cc. I refused and meanwhile my ct money accumulates.  

I don’t think it’s sneaky. You are lucky they haven’t void the paper CT money yet lol
