It seems the trick-or-treat these days among a dozen copycats.

These offers are really ridiculous!

Are YOU going to keep opening accounts at every single FI in Canada just to get few (taxable) bucks more than what you usually get?
I stopped playing this dumb game about 15 years ago...

Well dumb game or not, it's made me a pile of dough over the last few years sf-wink

And the number of dormant HISA's after the initial period keep piling up.

These banks shouldn't just assume we are all stupid, and start offering existing CUSTOMERS competitive rates. sf-cool

Looks like the trick to this one is to ensure that $200 is added each month, as the promo interest seems to only be added to a month where there has been a $200 deposit (to a max of 4 months, of course). Is that how other folks are reading the fine print too?

My reading of it is that the $200/mo is to qualify for an extra 0.25% interest per month. Is that correct?

If so, this would make the current offer 5.25% + 0.25% = 5.5% for 120 days.

Yes I think that's right. Regular interest + bonus interest + "smart interest". See
https://www.cibc.com/en/personal-banking/bank-accounts/savings-accounts/eadvantage-high-interest-savings-account/fees-and-details.html (in addition to the promo details).

I noted $5 transaction fee for just about everything out (push from CIBC) -- so I will either pull from another linked account, or wait for the interest to be paid after month 4, and then when I transfer money out (once!), I will transfer all except for $5 to cover that fee. NSF fee is $45 - so this $5 transaction fee (add $1.50 if Interac e-transfer) should be factored into the process for getting the $ out. Easiest of course seems to be a pull from another FI.

I think that any direct withdrawals from an eAdv account incurs the $5 fee. However, there is no charge if you first transfer to a CIBC chequing or savings account (and have free withdrawals available) before sending it to another bank.

I have 12 free withdrawals on my chequing account. I always transfer eAdv to chq before withdrawing funds from CIBC.

I did the on-line account opening process and received all confirmations by email about the new account being created.

Unfortunately, one week passed, and I never got the account, and no follow-up emails.

Anyone else got this situation ?

Got this same one for current offer, its so funny how these "real" bank accounts try to ding you on fees. That is their entire business model, to ding people on fees, and upsell to paid accounts.

Is there a way to link an external account to this CIBC high interest account? I opened this account today, but see no way to add funds other than Interac. Thanks.

Cheque deposit though ATM works, or App, and Tangerine works when adding the account manually, it takes a couple days, and would recommend testing with a few bucks first.

Be aware that Tang will give an error if the home address and Tang head office are in different provinces. You can easily fix this by temporarily changing your address to match that of Tang head office.

If one chooses to use Plaid, there's no restriction if the bank and client addresses are in different provinces. It was how I was able to link Simplii without having a residential within the province of Ontario.

Thanks for the comments. With respect to the potential error due to address mismatch, when you say 'home address', do you mean the home address listed with Tangerine or with CIBC?

When linking external accounts using micro-deposits, 'home address' is what is on file with Tangerine.
