I submitted a linking request from Hubert to CTFS and it was rejected by CTFS.

So I logged in online to try and get the following...

1. Account Number
2. Route #
3. Transit Number
4. Bank Address

The agent on the phone would not give me my information even after I went through all of the verification process. The agent kept telling me I need to link from CTFS to Hubert and not the other way around. Now I have significant funds at CTFS and just linked Hubert to Simplii & Motus with no issues.

I ended up telling the agent that address, routing number etc are not secret and she is obligated to give it to me. I also needed the front part of my bank account number.

After asking for a supervisor and staying on hold the agent came back and gave me some of the information. I then asked for the address and she could not tell me had to look it up and correct herself a number of times.

I now have the information and started the linking from Hubert once again. I am as experienced as it comes, I have literally probably linked a hundred account over the years and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had.

I have so much money there and realized I have absolutely no concrete information from my account. I even checked my T5 slip and only have a portion of my account number.

Beware, Beware of this bank

Institution Number: 338
Transit Number: 01012
Account number: add 170100 before your account number (verify)

Address:P.O. Box 2000, Station Main Welland, ON L3B 5S3
Do not use this published address

Address: 555 Prince Charles Drive Welland, ON L3B 5S3
Use this address

She still gave me the wrong address on the phone ending in postal code L3B 5S5
Which is a variation of the Station Main Address

I cannot verify the accuracy of this information until the linking is complete but the entire experience was very disconcerting considering how much I have on deposit there.

Forgot to add that the agent stated several times if I link from Hubert to CTFS the transfer linking process will break for future transfers.

I answered "thats ok I only need to link once" As in remove my money PERMANENTLY

Imagine, how the heck can that impact future transfers

Absolutely insane response.

PS. For anyone wondering...

I needed to do a pull and not a push that is why I was insistent to link from Hubert to CTFS.

I assume you will have a little interest coming due at the end of the month. How will you get that out?

I imagine they really can set the link to expire - sort of like a temporary password.

I think in my case the agent looked at the amount on deposit and decided she was not going to co-operate until I started to get pretty insistent.

Thank you for the account clarification

Hubert has the easiest system for adding accounts, its all done via dropdown menus but it does require you to verify your banks address and pick the correct one.

You should contact Hubert and ask if other Hubert customers have complained about having issues creating links and keeping their links working with CTB.

Sorry to hear of your tribulations with CTFS. I was able to create outside links to CTFS without problem.

I can confirm your institution, transit, and account numbers. The CTFS rep was easily able to give them to me when requested.

A small clarification on the acct number. 170100+account number is for your first account. If you have a second account, it would be 170200+acct#

Mine are 170100+HISA acct#
170200+Joint acct
170300+TFSA

I used Tang, which does not require the bank address, so I do not know why they need the address of the bank.

Odd how that happened

In the past I successfully linked 2 banks (EQ & Manulife) to CTFS by printing a Direct Deposit form on old CTFS site. It had all the necessary info... It did not include the address of CFTS but that does not seem to be needed. (I have not tried them recently but I now wonder if pulls from or pushes to CTFS from these banks will still work.)

But now that form is no longer available on the new merged site. I called and they are willing to give the Bank, Transit and Account #s but it seems they are no longer allowing linking externally from other banks.... only links to other banks from within the CTFS site are allowed. They also confirmed they do not even support Direct Deposits of things like paychecks.

I am inquiring to see if this form is still available. I'll update if I find any new info.

I appreciate the info. I have been looking for this for a while now. I will attempt to link from EQ and report results.

And because you also do not have cheques you are 100% reliant on what CTFS says and does. If you have larger amounts of money on deposit you need to go through their manual system to link and only from CTFS to your bank. Then the limits come into play and when you call they can again give you the runaround.

I'm starting to wonder if they actually have my money, I can't wait to get the heck out.

rule no.1, never transfer any meaningful amount of money to any new account at any bank until its properly linked and tested. Obviously with online banks only and the like, this is of paramount importance.

Been with them for years, they just keep changing the rules, I had no limits and was easily able to transfer in and out before.

Maybe I do only simple transactions but never had any issues.

Also, I heard you get Canadian Tire money if you pay bills through though their bank. True?

You can get CDN TIRE points if you pay bills through their credit card. World version earns 1% of bills. I have been doing this for a couple of years now. Everything from utility bills, insurance, property tax, etc.

Thanks, but I tried paying Enbridge and Hydro with a credit card (not Canadian Tire CC) and I think both Enbridge and Hydro charge a fee which defeats the purpose of using a credit card..

Only with Triangle (Canadian Tire) credit cards is it possible to pay utilities, taxes, etc. without a fee. The thread on this subject is here:

Hi, I went back to your April 2021 message. Questions:

1) Does this still work?
2) Does the utility still not charge an extra fee for using a CC?

1) Yes.
2) There is no extra fee for using a Triangle (Canadian Tire) credit card to make payments for utilities, property taxes, etc. (The following is a quote from smayer97 in the link provided in Comment #17: "How Canadian Tire does it is by creating a special bank account in the background from which they generate the payment.")

Thanks. Do I have to personally open/create this "special bank account" ? Or, is it all done by Canadian Tire Bank? I called and the CSR was not aware of any bank account in the background.
