.
An interesting article popped up on CTV News today, about having Cash/Banknotes on-hand during times of Crisis (weather disasters, major outages, civil strife, etc.). The article makes for quite a good read . . .

.
Sadly for some here ... having Gold was not mentioned. sf-laugh

BS.
What you need in a time of a REAL crisis is a lot of ammo and proper tool to utilize it...
Pray we never get to that stage...

That is why beside gold I have more than 10 handguns (legal).

If gold will be useless, I will try to exchange some handguns for food.

Always better to have some alternative as an insurance.

That CTV News article isn't about 'The Zombie Apocalypse' ... LOL sf-laugh

Maybe you should start your own thread, eh.

Your firearms will be completely useless particularly since you have Registered handguns.
Government will take them from you ASAP in case of anything. Even NOW you cannot buy one; you cannot sell one; you can only pretend to be a 'collector' or pay astronomical price to belong to a club and punch holes into paper targets.

Technically handguns are 'illegal' in Canada as of NOW.

And boasting on soc.net. you have '10 handguns' are kind of.... hmmm... dumb?

Always smart(?) to keep a stash of cash and hope for no fires or home invasions. Guns, too, can be handy to get you cash.

Remember, cash is even less sure to be of value in a social breakdown than gold!

On the other hand, you can always eat your pet moose in a crisis. Or, as some Canadian aboriginals point out, your sled dogs. (The old line about why dogsleds can be better than snowmobiles.)

Exactly. Talking about owning tons of gold and lots of guns on the internet will not be something I will disclose, whether real or exaggerated. Safe to assume internet traffic are actively monitored by the authorities, for the good and bad reasons...

I thought I heard somewhere that diamond was used as currency by some people fleeing Nazi held Europe in WW II.

A story from the 1917 Russian Revolution.
"The execution of the Romanovs took place in the greatest secrecy, with no one knowing about it and the affair being hushed up. However, there are testimonies from the soldiers in the firing squad. They reported that the bullets ricocheted off the Tsar’s daughters without wounding them, forcing them to be executed with knives. When they took a closer look, their corsets were filled with jewels and precious stones, as were the linings of their dresses. Huge diamonds were bathed in blood."

Dean, it was simple reply to your comment: "Sadly for some here ... having Gold was not mentioned."

I don't need my own thread and I'm not preparing for 'The Zombie Apocalypse'

You mentioned Gold and I simple replied, that is all, no further comments or threads needed, because they are not related to savings.

First, I'm not pretending, I'm a real collector.
Second, I do not pay any price to belong to a club, I do not belong to a club.
Third, kind of dumb? Possible, maybe, it's your opinion. You have your opinion and freely shared it here, that is perfectly fine.

Also, on this happy note, I just decided that on this site I will not be posting any further comments about subjects, directly not related to savings, such as gold, guns, food, mobile phone plans, etc.

Guns, Ammo and 'The Zombie Apocalypse' aside . . .

The article linked in Post #1 makes no mention of the 'How & Where' to store that safety wad of cash, to protect it from Fire & Theft.

Along with a few other small valuables, we store our stash-of-cash (~$250 in small bills) in a small portable 'Firesafe' (see sample below) well hidden away, deep in our basement where no one would find it.

Any other thoughts, or ideas ?

    Dean

P.S.
Please take the guns & ammo elsewhere.

We're not sure, but you may have misread The Article linked in Post #1.

We're not talking total social breakdown ... just temporary crisis like
weather disasters, major outages, local civil strife, etc..

Under those temporary circumstances (and even in most wars),
historically Cash Is King.

    Dean

P.S.
We're still waiting for that thread/subject to be posted
on how to survive a 'Zombie Apocalypse'. sf-wink
