This topic is totally unrelated to financial matters, but as many of us here are older-folk looking for easy/simple ways to exercise, I thought Peter might let this one through.

OfflineThe Japanese have the longest or second longest life expectancy. I think it is due primarily to their diet.

Well I'll Be, MattS ... you're Right ⬆️
A longer, healthier life = a need for more retirement funds.
A need for more retirement funds = more financial planning & investing.
It's all part of 'The Financial Circle Of Life'.

Perhaps the greatest need for retirement funds would come when there is longer lifespan, but declining health? That is when the most money will be needed, while living healthier but longer could require comparatively less money.

Specifically, Japanese on Okinawa lead significant populations in the world in longevity. They inhabit a low-density agrarian island with a fish-predominant diet, and number a bit under 1.5 million. …
It is more likely their gene pool.
In National Geographic documentary Age of Aging, geneticist Nir Barzilai shared his findings from studying healthy 100+ year olds.
One goes to Dunkin' Donuts almost every afternoon for a coffee and Boston Cream donut. Another smoked for 50 years.
About 50% of the centenarians are obese. About 50% don't exercise. About 60% of the men and 30% of the women continue to smoke.

One thing about island nations. They also did a study on Iceland and found that almost all Icelanders share the same gene pool.

OfflineMalcolm Gladwell opens his book "Outliers" with a look at a population of Italian expatriates in the US who are remarkably healthy. Unfortunately, I don't have to book to cite, as I lent it to an Okinawan friend. (Not joking!)
The conclusions he cites were that it was their close, supportive society that did the trick.
Hmm.. now I'm thinking of those commercials we're seeing today pushing the value of short calls to friends. One of them is the one about mini-dragons...

OfflineThe Mediterranean diet is a heart-healthy eating pattern rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats, particularly olive oil, and is associated with numerous health benefits.
(Also, don't forget wine. My Italian neighbours make their own wine from grapes.)
P.S. Also, I think there are surveys that show people with money also live longer.

I have the book. The opening chapter is "The Roseto Mystery" about the people from the Roseto Valfortore area of Italy who emigrated to Roseto, Pennsylvania.
There is no mention of those Roseteans in the US living to 100+. It is more about fewer deaths from heart disease than longer life. Dr. Stewart Wolf found that was in spite of many of those Roseteans in the US smoking heavily and struggling with obesity.

While Scandinavian origins are correct for the male lineage in Iceland, genomics reveals that the female lineage contains mostly Irish ancestry.
That means that some Vikings "invited" some Irish females on a one way trip to Iceland, when they paid visits to the Emerald Isle.

Don't forget the Black/dark Irish.
The term "Black Irish" refers to Irish people with dark features, such as black hair, darker skin, and dark eyes.
The origins of the term are debated, with some legends suggesting it comes from Spanish sailors shipwrecked in the 1500s, while genetic studies indicate these traits may stem from ancient Irish ancestry.
2
The term is not commonly used in Ireland itself but has circulated among Irish emigrants and their descendants.
1
Historical influences, including the arrival of the Celts and later groups like the Vikings, contributed to the diversity of features among the Irish population.
