OfflineIndeed! All of us won the lottery by being born or being allowed to come here.
I'm happy to buy at WalMart, etc, wherever there is stuff from the 3rd world, as a portion of my purchase money trickles down to those among the most desperate on earth. The few dollars they make from being employed in those manufacturing facilities often means the difference between their family eating or not, or their children getting cheap but life-saving medicines, etc. So, to me, a version of charitable giving that also retains the recipient's dignity as it is a earned via their hard work, a mutually-beneficial exchange of their services for my money, instead of just their hand out, pleading.
It's clear that what constitutes charity ranges greatly from person to person.

OfflineSorry, didn't mean anything complicated.
Same idea though different application as people who like to "buy local" because it helps nearby small businesses who have a hard time competing against large multinationals, etc. I enjoy financially supporting poor in the 3rd world by buying products from those countries because they badly need 1st world consumers to buy their stuff. During the virus when people weren't travelling a lot of those countries were devastated due to money provided by 1st world tourists was not there. 1st world consumers' money going to 3rd world countries is critical to them.
That's my idea of charity. That's all.
That's all.

CAD, I'm fully aware people who work for charities aren't volunteers. They should be. Including the speech givers.
I think the only people who can afford to work for free are the "ladies who lunch".
"Ladies who lunch is a phrase often used to describe well-off, well-dressed women who meet for social luncheons, usually during the working week. Typically, the women involved are married and non-working. Normally the lunch is in a high-class restaurant, but could also take place in a department store during a shopping trip. Sometimes the lunch takes place under the pretext of raising money for charity."

Excuse me, but going into 3rd world country for vacation or similar is really LOW.
So you go there because everything is dirt cheap and you are showing off how 'rich' you are while natives are barely alive. And I guess you just love when they bow in front of you while you sprinkle them with green bucks.
I NEVER went to a vacation into country with lower standard of living I have here nor will EVER go.
Anyway, this topic has nothing to do with saving money so it should be closed.
As for the calendar, thank you, ordered one due to supposedly nice pictures. I guess it is done 'american' way (week starts with Sunday) so it is useless to me as MY week starts with Monday like in most civilized countries.

OfflineCAD, that's certainly one way to look at it, I myself have never travelled to a poor country, no plans to, but it is true that 1st world money is very important to many of those countries and the workers in the resorts, etc. Without that they'd be sitting in the dirt with no money, not good for their families.
Just looked at my Canadian Milk Calendar and my garbage and recycling calendar from the municipality and they both start with Sunday - yikes!

Never heard that phrase before. The phrase "out to lunch" seems appropriate though.
I think most Canadians travel to third world countries because they are closer to the equator.

OfflineSorry, CAD, as a science geek I was raised on the metric system. I use Celsius temps and Kilometers, Kilograms and seconds.
In fact, selection of my calendar for the year is a major life ritual of mine, and I only see Mon-Sun calendars rarely - and ALWAYS sourced from Europe! Local bank, member of parliament and car calendars are always Sun-Sat, too, as far as I can tell.
I've watched out for that since the last time I got the wrong type and was always screwing up appointments!
