The Canadian Wildlife Federation is supported heavily by federal, provincial and territorial governments as well as corporate and other donations. Your taxes are helping to fund CWF so not sure I would consider the calendar "free" if you pay taxes in Canada.

Sadly ... there's One ⬆️ in every crowd sf-confused

There are Many Reasons (too many to list here) why the CWF gets so much Funding, Support and Donations. They are arguably, 'The Best' wildlife organization in Canada❗

P.S.
'Yes' ... that CWF 2026 calendar is Free (including shipping), but that offer is also part of a CWF Fundraising Event. Please donate what you can.

I tend to shun any charitable organization that spends taxpayer and donor money on unnecessary A&G. CWF is relatively atrocious with Overhead at almost 32% of total funding.

A quote from the Ci.ca. . . .

"Canadian Wildlife Federation is a 3-star charity. It has a B Results Reporting grade, which is average. For every dollar donated, 68 cents are available to go to the cause, which is within Ci's reasonable range."

.
Which wildlife federations/charities in N.A. and the EU do better❓

Please let us know . . .

68 cents on the dollar is not within my "reasonable range".

Anyway stopped ALL charitable donations long ago, the day I found out some of them use my donations to pay politicians and their families to give speeches to them. On the down low. Decided the money they get via my taxes was enough (I pay a lot of taxes, in my opinion).

By the way do big banks still give out calendars to customers? I use one on my wall, last few years I've been getting a free Milk Calendar when the dairy float goes by at a nearby small-town Santa Claus parade.

In BC, ICBC gives a choice of 2 editions. The car one is usually very nice and free.

Some of us will remember the WE Charity which raised big bucks to fund projects to help people in very poor countries - and then we learn that some very prominent (affluent) politician(s) and family members were paid fees and travel expenses by the Charity for speaking engagements to fundraise.

Common sense (and a strong finance background) tells me it is not "reasonable" that a charity (eg CWF) would spend 32% of its income from grants, donations etc. on its overhead expenses.

I still get calendars from RBC and TD. I know that CIBC stopped the practice. I do not know about BNS or BoM.

I have no idea off hand but unless funding efficiency is over 80%, and preferably in the order of 90%, I prefer not to donate. It has to have at least a B+ rating and preferably A- or A.

People working for 'charitable organizations' are NOT volunteers.
They get paid from YOUR donation and the rest maybe goes to a 'good cause'.

Here's adding *Charity Intelligence Canada* to my charity donation list! They are 5% on administration and 3% on fundraising costs.

CAD, I'm fully aware people who work for charities aren't volunteers. They should be. Including the speech givers.

Thanks, GIC-Fanatic and HermanH, that's useful info. I'll find out when they become available and snag one.

Keep in mind that employees who count as "administration costs" are often doing "good work" in their jobs. When I was a Foster Parents Plan subscriber, I analyzed their financial statements and found that local case workers in the foreign country were counted as "administration" but all their work was serving the local community. I later found this was common practice with all manner of charities.

(Change.org seems to devote all its efforts to supporting change.org, though!)

Indeed, almost all charitable organizations have paid employees, offices and other A&G including marketing and fund raising. It is the degree to which they do that and at what cost. That is what makes the difference in efficiency and impact.

Consider yourself fortunate to have won the lottery and living in a developed western nation.

That is both ridiculous and impossible. Even food banks like my local Okanagan Food Bank that relies heavily on volunteers has to have some employees to manage the building, pay the utilities (gas/electric/water/phone), manage donations, website, financial reporting, volunteers, etc, etc. BTW, my local Food Bank has 98% efficiency because they do operate on a shoestring.

Even our charity community Music School of which I was on the Board for a number of years had to have 2 employees for all of the similar reasons noted above.
