OfflineI see some great reviews here from every one.
As much as we don’t like increases the $18 plan is a GOOD DEAL as more was offered vs the $15 plan …. like 750mb MORE data, UNLIMITED Canada Wide out bound calling (vs 100 minutes), and 4G vs 3G. The loss of 100 LD minutes was for a targeted group and I wouldn’t have used.
When you compare to a land line at Shaw for $35 a month or Telus for $45, $18 is very decent. And yes, I realize you may get a deal on a Shaw land line and I know for sure you can get a “forever” deal on a Telus landline for $0.00, $5.00 or $7.00 per month.
One of my PM accounts is our land line and runs from a ZTE box and works well. Will be eliminating that option as we really only need 1 number each and the land line is one too many.
I bought a new number from the NumberBarn (good experience) and ported it to VoIP.ms (good experience) and will be our new land line number for non personal use and will call forward simultaneously to both of our cell phones. I expect the cost to be $1 for sure and maybe $2 …. Voip.ms is in USA dollars. Net savings, about $16.
Bought a Vtech link to cell phone set …. so far the Bluetooth connection works well. And handles 2 cell phones.
My experience with Public Mobile has been pretty much flawless. Had a few interactions with a CSR and all resolved with in 24 hours or less with no downtime.
Telus owns both Koodo and Public Mobile.

Here are all the freebies they have given me which carry over every month plus I have had numerous free months due to points.
Mine is similar. I have barely touched any of my freebies. But is nice to know they are there, which makes our plans second to none. But it looks like freebies in future aren’t in the plans of PM. 🙁
Have marked my calendar for Fri, Nov 28, 2025 to check my “Change Subscriptions” x 2.

OfflineChatr have an attractive re-paid plan also, $149 for the year, unlimited Canada wide talk & text, 30Gb of data.
So 10Gb more than Freedom's similarly priced offering and more importantly, it's on the Rogers network. I just replaced my Speakout deal with Chatr.

I highly suggest getting an ATA so that you can still have a land line at home. It will be just a one time cost because it can connect to the same number you will use to call forward with. Great if cell battery dies, and I do like having two different paths of communication (helped during the Rogers outage)
I have had a Voip.ms number as my "land line" for years now, and it has been mostly great. Its the only service I have had where the cost went down over the years, rather than up. When call forwarding, just know that the per minute cost will be doubled (because they are making a connection from the number that is calling you, and making a second connection to your phone). If you are making long calls, you can halve that by using the ATA landline phone.

I “had” VoIP.ms with an ATA box until the Distributed Denial of Service, which in my opinion was their fault. Hopefully, they have stepped their security. Right know the ATA box was replaced with a ZTE box with a PM SIM and my cost is less. Double cost for forwarding is not correct, DID cost is $0.85/month, Make call $0.0052/min (one fifth of a cent) and Receive calls $0.009/min (one ninth of a cent). So call forward cost is $0.0142/min. All charges are in USA dollars though. So 60 minutes will cost 85 cents plus the DID cost of another 85 cents. Roughly $2 per month. No 911 fee. The call forward VoIP number will only be given to businesses, banks and medical service etc along with a cell number. I can’t see it be used much and this gives me a cheap functional land line. The ATA box requires power too….so if cell is dead and at home….it will be charged. And the VoIP call forwarding will be simultaneously sent to 2 cell phones so I guess the may be .0052/min. more but not likely as only one phone will be answered. We will request personal calls be directed to the appropriate cell number. Rather than using an ATA box, both of our cell phones and a spare cell phone will have the VoIP.ms APP installed which, as you know, only needs a wifi connection. If in a pinch (no cell service) there’s a cost but …. that’s cheap insurance. Will have options to call out over VoIP.ms APP on cell phone. And sub accounts have been set up for caller ID’s that belong to the cell phone and won’t display the VoIP.ms DID caller ID.
Both cell phones have Bluetooth connection to our “in house land line phone sets”.
Make sense?
Edit. When using, many years ago, VoIP.ms as a land line I programmed VoIP.ms to also simultaneously ring our cell phones AND the ATA box. First one to pick up….the other 2 stopped ringing. Was fantastic.

OfflineSorry, I thought you were new to Voip.ms, but you know it better than myself. And I agree, the couple of weeks of their DDoS attack was a communication nightmare for myself as well. Has been fine since though, the one thing I miss is not being able to ping their servers to find the best one to connect to, but totally understand why they don't allow it any more.
The customizability of the service for the cost charged is truly fantastic. We are both using the service in very different scenarios, yet they excel at meeting our needs. And I also agree that the ring groups are one of the best features they have.

OfflineFor those considering Koodo, where any telephone call for service or changes costs $25, take your concerns to a store like London Drugs, who will interface with Koodo and not charge you anything.
I know people who tried to do things on Koodo's web site and were whacked over a thousand dollars or more when things didn't get dome as they thought they were doing. In one case, the subscriber was told the agent could see that they'd tried to change their plan to go overseas, but had failed the confirmation step. Cost: $2200! Even though they could see what was intended!
Anything one does on-line (including banking!) is YOUR fault if botched. Let them do it and take the pain.

I hope the members here know the answer. My Bell telephone uses this new Fibre.
My Bell internet uses the old copper wire(s).
My Bell telephone has not worked for several weeks now. Fortunately, my Bell Internet is working fine. Why is this happening?
Assuming the Bell install is similar to the Telus installation here’s my assumption only. Both internet and phone will run off of FIBRE, assuming both are Bell.
You had fibre brought up to your Telco box. And fibre installs can be very different. It’s the Telco box (likely gray coloured) that’s been there for ever. And that Telco box has copper leading into your home. You had a network access hub installed as close as possible to that Telco box inside your home or garage. So the tech would have used your existing copper or coax on the inside of your home from the network access hub. So envision this…INBOUND fibre to your Telco box, then INBOUND fibre into your inside home to the network access hub, then having your existing copper attached to the OUTBOUND side of the hub. The hub (run by fibre) may have a few or numerous out bound ports. One for your internet and one for your telephone.
First, check the telephone connection on the hub. Release it and firmly re insert it.
Second, reboot the hub. That will take your phone, tv, internet down for a few minutes. There will be a reboot button on the hub or unplug it for a minute and plug it back in. Rebooting may also update the software for the hub as well. And the update can make it longer before it’s back up a running.
You would also have had a router(s) installed for wifi as centred in your home, best possible.
DO NOT disconnect the small black wire/fibre from the network hub.

If Bell does a service call….whats the charge $150 or higher?
There are other options for a land line.
VoIP.ms, which runs off of your wifi. And cost, way back, for me was about $12 CDN/month. And many programming options. And support is good for the newbie. A few ways to go, device wise too.
Or a cheap cell plan using a ZTE box.
https://www.telus.com/en/mobility/wireless-home-phone
https://www.rogers.com/wireless-home-phone
https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/article-categories/koodo-wireless-home-phone?srsltid=AfmBOoqswoC9DQGNYo6y_Sx4nJVs8jgnMY9Ue36xkCRjYkj1QFhTQ3d1
Or a hybrid….you buy an unlocked ZTE box and shop for best sim plan cost wise like annual plan from Freedom. PM has made it clear to me that my Telus ZTE box will not be supported by them. But so far so good for quite a few years. I have heard it might be white listed.
Or a cheap plan with a satisfactory phone using a Bluetooth connection to a link 2 cell home phone set.
Whitelisting is a cybersecurity strategy under which only pre-approved or trusted users, entities, or actions are allowed to operate on a system or network. Instead of trying to keep one step ahead of cyber attackers to identify and block malicious code, with a whitelist approach, IT security teams instead identify trustworthy agents, applications, and sources that are then pre-approved for access to a given system. Via whitelisting, trusted entities — such as software applications, email addresses, or IP addresses — are granted special access and privileges that other entities are denied by default.
Edit. And for further savings. Look at Rogers products along with a Rogers cash back credit card. I only have the credit card but do see how much more of a cash back I would receive if I had other Rogers products. Just an option to review.
Disclaimer: I’m not posting to promote Rogers products.

Good points.
If there are concerns that this can happen to you.
Consider this:
Top up your account with vouchers, for one or two months in advance.
If your account demands a credit card to be on your profile, put an exhausted prepaid Visa card on the account. Warning….don’t screw up on keeping your account topped up.
A prepaid card should be tamper proof and be, behind the counter. A $25 card will cost around $30. Use the card all up for whatever and then put it on your Telco account.

No problem!
I enjoy:
Saving money especially at the expense of a Telco.
Programming for my needs at VoIP.ms.
Not that I know a lot about VoIP….I sure like VoIP.ms.
Since my departure right after the DDoS, I still have a $40 credit. So my little test is already funded.
And I see a lot of improvements since I was last programming.

OfflineThanks guys, but the explanation is just too technical for my feeble brain. Maybe best if I just call Bell. If they try to charge me I'll argue that everything was fine until they installed that darn Fibre. (My TV is with Rogers Cable and working fine. My Internet is with Bell and working fine but the problem is my voice telephone where I can't call out and friends can't call in.)

Here’s what IA says.
AI Overview
Does anyone know how to fix this : r/bell
If your Bell phone on fibre is not working, the first step is to restart your Bell modem and check your equipment for the correct phone connection to the modem. If the issue persists, use Bell's Virtual Repair tool online or in the MyBell app to diagnose and fix the problem, or contact Bell Tech Support at 310-BELL or #611 from a Bell mobile device for further assistance.
1. Restart your Bell Modem and Check Equipment
Power Cycle: Unplug the power cord from your Bell modem for at least 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait for the modem to fully reconnect to the network before testing your phone.
Check the Connection: Ensure your phone is plugged directly into the phone port on the back of your Bell modem (often labelled "Tel 1" or "Tel One"). For Fibe services, a phone cable connects from the modem to your phone line.
2. Use Bell's Virtual Repair Tool
Go Online or Use the App: Access Bell's Virtual Repair tool on the Bell support website or use the MyBell app.
Diagnostic Scan: The tool will check your Bell hardware and network, optimize equipment settings, and help book a technician appointment if needed.
3. Check for Other Issues
Cordless Phone: If you are using a cordless phone, ensure the battery is fully charged and the base is connected.
Other Devices: Disconnect all other devices plugged into the phone line (like answering machines or fax machines) and try a basic corded phone to see if the problem is with another device.
Physical Damage: Check for any visible damage to phone lines or jacks inside your home.
4. Contact Bell
Call for Support: If none of the above steps work, contact Bell Home Phone tech support.
Contact Information: You can reach them by calling 310-BELL (1-866-310-BELL) or #611 from a Bell mobile device.
Also, actually when you call they may likely see what the problem is.

OfflineGIC-Fanatic: Would you really be wiling to let a telco forever hold a thousand bucks or more to cover possible charges? Better in your GICs, no?
COIN: The telco will only charge you for a service call to install new services or if they blame you for a problem. Always disconnect anything they didn't install before calling them. Their screwup, their responsibility.

What did I say to get that response? No not interested in credit cards snafus when putting them online for auto-pay.
And yes of course a GIC or even a lock-in just to add another level of protection against unauthorized withdrawal.
But due to your query I plan to put a plan in place to pay Public Mobile even though it’s Telus. I will begin to buy vouchers as long as they are not able to reprint. And will leave an exhausted preload Visa card on my profiles.
