Hello community,

I am curious if anyone else here is using Fizz Mobile as their cellular service provider. I switched over to them about two months ago and so far the service works for me.

One perk of Fizz Mobile is gifting data to other Fizz members. I thought this post could be a place where community members can help each other if one finds themselves in need of some data.

Peter: if the above is against the rules or spirit of your site, please remove this topic.

I hope this thread is allowed to remain. There have been other related issues such as tax software that were allowed to remain.

I looked at Fizz and was dubious but I imagine what they offer is suitable for some people. I also imagine it is running off the back of Freedom Mobile. And the grand owner is Quebecor, which I knew from my working days at a major retailer as they supplied us with numerous box cars of catalogs Canada wide, almost every month.

Freedom is the new upcoming major wireless Telecom. They have their own tower towers and are expanding while piggy backing off of the major players towers. And I do feel they will be here for a long time. I was considering to use the Freedom Mobile, no data (not needed) $99 a year plan, in a ZTE box for my home number.

So Fizz is looking like a good product!

The 2 of us have 3 phone numbers. And in the last 90 days have only had 9 legit calls on our land line. And we are older and are finding a huge shift of actually phoning, either way, has been pretty much been replaced by iMessaging. So we replaced our land line with a VoIP number that call forwards to both of our mobile phones. We give that number to businesses only and is not for personal calling. Cost is expected to be $3-$5 US a month.

Our Mobile phones are on the, owned by Telus Public Mobile, system. Started at $13 a month and is now much mightier for $18 plan, 4G, unlimited Canada wide calling, unlimited international texting, 1 gb data a month. Lots has happened along with being disgruntled by changing rates, prices and degrading of the rewards plan. But I still love their service as the package today exceeds our needs and no worries of reliability. The best thing is…..their add ons, other than data, don’t expire until used up. Addons we have accumulated as freebies and purchased pretty much allows us to call worldwide.

Fizz will fit into your needs….go for it!

I guess what I am saying is …. shop for your needs. Pay for your needs. Don’t overpay for services you don’t need.

To clarify this point
- you can only port over a phone number into a new Fizz account/plan
- you can port over a phone number that is already active with another provider
- you cannot port over a phone number associated with a landline or VOIP
- you cannot port over a phone number into an existing Fizz plan/account (ie. to replace a phone number with a different phone number)

A note on the last point. Some people try new providers by creating an account with a new number. If they decide the new service suits them, only then will they port over their existing phone number. If you go this route with Fizz, you will need to create another new account for your existing phone number.

If you go this route with Fizz, you will need to create another new account for your existing phone number.

1. That’s kind of harsh. People are dropping their landlines be they be wireless (ZTE box), Telco, or VoIP, and keep their favourite number and port to a cellular plan.
I moved from a Telco number, to VoIP, to cellular A, to cellular B, back to cellular A. My new VoIP number was purchased from NumberBarn and I neglected to verify its origin. Unfortunately was a VoIP number as well and PayPal refuses to take it as my landline number….what the heck.

2. Can you clarify the last sentence?
“you will need to create another new account for your existing phone number”
Another new account at Fizz?

Does Fizz allow changing numbers within the Fizz environment? (Replacing existing number)

Does Fizz allow porting numbers from one Fizz count to another Fizz account? (Likely losing one of the two numbers)

And how does a company verify what is a VoIP number? I know you can find it here but this is the origin and may have been ported to a non VoIP environment.

From the FAQ: https://fizz.ca/en/faq/activat.....er-to-fizz

Note that a number transfer cannot be done on a line that is already active with Fizz. In other words, if you already have a Fizz plan, porting a number to this plan is not possible; you need to create a new plan.

Your phone number must be a mobile number. If it's associated with a landline or VOIP, it cannot be transferred over to Fizz. If you encounter an issue with any other type of number, please contact us using the chat bubble at the bottom right of this page so we can verify everything with you.

If your number starts with an area code outside the Fizz subscription area, your number cannot be transferred.

These questions are best directed to Fizz Mobile. I do not know.
