OfflineAnybody experiencing problems with their Bell Fibre voice telephone service? I'm having the same problem (i.e. no service) as this couple that I found doing an Internet search.
I cannot call any banks, credit unions, nobody and nobody can call me. Bell switched me to Fibre whereas I previously had copper wire.
"Bell's optic network transition left one Ontario couple without any communication
Bell's transition from copper to fibre network has left some customers, including a couple in Ontario, without access to phone services. The couple relied on landline phones as their primary form of communication, and the switch left them unable to contact others, including emergency services. The couple expressed their dissatisfaction with the sudden loss of phone services and the need for notice before the transition. Bell has acknowledged the issue and stated that they would have provided notice to the couple. However, the couple reported experiencing service interruptions during the transition, raising concerns about the reliability of the new fibre network."

OfflineHi. I don’t have Bell as I’m in the west.
Copper Telco lines had low voltage in them. Fibre does not. Cha Ching a savings for the Telco.
On fibre, what’s the cost, what is the local calling area or is it Canada wide, and did Bell provide you with a battery backup up for power outages? <= no need to answer.
Telus in B.C. a lot of us are on fibre. And at first they would provide a battery back up by request. Then by request if you are elderly….then to screw you …. use your mobile phone.
Shaw/Rogers I believe is a form of VoIP and a power back up is included. Not sure if Canada wide but when we had it, calling another Shaw/Rogers customer was toll free Canada wide.
Soooo. I continually look for cost savings especially for TV, Internet and Home Phone.
I dropped Telus home phone and moved to VoIP.ms. Voip.ms is in USA dollars. My average cost was $11 Canadian (converted from USA $) and included 911. Rates were same for USA and Canada. I saved about $20 a month. Then they had a dDos attack and was without phone for a couple of weeks.
Then I moved to a ZTE box and a Public Mobile SIM card at $13 a month (and much less), Canada wide and had a limit of 100 outbound minutes a month. Rarely did we go over. But just in case we bought 500 more minutes for $5. And rarely did we call out of our region.
Now I wonder….why do my wife and I have 3 phone numbers? Mine is rarely used, but need for emergency as telephone booths are non existent. My wife uses her mobile a bit more than I and the land is used less and less as more communication is by texting or FaceTime.
But we still, supposedly, need a land line for appointments, medical, banking etc. <= I know and maybe not.
So I’m back with VoIP.ms with a new land line number for “non personal” calls. It rings at home and both of our mobile numbers. I expect the cost, with 911, to be $3-$5 a month. And have one less mobile account to pay for. Also the cell phones work with the land line set with Bluetooth. My wife’s cell number will be eliminated and will port our original land line to her mobile plan.
Point being….don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Is there an alternative? There are other options. Do you really need a Bell land line? Or do you only need very reliable internet?
And does CTRC or CCTS have regulations in regards to fix time or allowable down time for home phone service?

This has happened with their Internet service not long ago. No Internet. Had to call service to fix, same issue, fibre network. One wonders about all the "investments" they claim to make when raising cost of services.

The Bell landline (when it works) provides me with unlimited local usage at a fixed monthly price. My Internet is provided by a company formed by friends. I think they buy a block of time from Bell and sell pieces of it to members of the group.
I have a Store 7/11 celphone that is using the Rogers network. 7/11 in an email said I have to get a new SIM card because the old one will expire soon. Went to two 7/11 stores to get the new SIM card and both stores were out of stock.

OfflineMy contacts at big phone companies tell me to try as hard as you can to get installation by a phone company "craftsman," and not a contractor. The contractors are of varying quality and many are abominable.
The fiber box they put in your home will charge you for its electricity and not work when power is out. It sucks.
