That's a pretty tidy sum, but I think it might be more accurate to compare post-tax income to expenses, since expenses are paid by post-tax dollars.
Holy cow! So, the pre-tax inflation rate is actually 14%.

I just received an online-only offer from Tangerine for 5.00% from December 06, 2022 to April 30, 2023 on new deposits to Savings, TFSA, RSP and US$ Savings accounts up to a maximum of $1,000,000 per applicable account.

I'm also a lucky winner of the Tangerine targeted lottery.
Although I have not received an email as of this morning I decided to call anyway and accepted their targeted offer of (5.00%) until 04/30/2023.
I was going to move money from Meridian (3.95% until mid January 2023 ) to Motive (3.00%) but this offer beats its hands down.
So I'm off to Meridian for a draft (it faster than transfering).

No email but CSR said I was targeted and eligble.
And until the CSR activated the offer it was not visible online.

I just logged in to Tangerine and the 5% offer was in my insight. I had not received an email yet. Offer valid for new deposits only (Savings, TFSA, RRSP and US Savings).
Offer is valid from today (Dec 6th) until April 30.

For 5%, Dec 6 to Apr 30/23, I am reading it as on new higher total balances only, not as per daily balances. Yes?

Pretty decent offer, thanks Tangerine!
Smart on TFSAs too, get the new contribution Jan 1 then can give low daily rate after April so folks will be tempted to convert to GIC in May thus tying-up TFSA money there for at least a while.

I guess I finally waited long enough to get the 5% offer in an email. My account had just a few dollars in it prior. I just transferred in a large sum of money to make it worthwhile. When the offer expires, out goes the money. I don't negotiate with Tangerine any more. It used to work a long time ago, but it was also kind of like groveling, so I gave it up.

I am beginning to think part of their algo is how much cumulative interest one has collected, esp during promo period vs regular. If an account is seen as primarily a "rate hunter", then its less likely to receive any promotion. After all its counterproductive to what they are trying to achieve, which is to capture "lazy money" and funding stability.
Same algo probably deployed at Simplii too. All big banks are the same and they are NOT very innovative at all, just copy each other essentially and enjoy the monopoly.

I'm on the 3.75+% promo until Dec. 31st at Tangerine. I phoned in this morning to start transferring the money out. I was offered 3.25% for 5 months. I said no.

I just called Tanga to try and get the 4.25. They won't budge on my rate: i'm getting 3.4% till May 2023. I have over $100K there. It pisses me off.

me neither.
I believe having bought a few GIC from them last 6 months flagged me as a customer NOT to be targeted. They are evil.
