OfflineTangerine Bank adds support for passwords.
byu/ShkDaQNLX inPersonalFinanceCanada
You can add a password under "Security and Login" when you are logged into online banking. Your PIN will still be used for telephone banking, but once you set up a password, your PIN will no longer work for online banking.

OfflineMy source was logging onto Tangerine last night and stumbling across the password functionality. You must be very insecure and obviously you did not take time to read some of the comments on the foreign social media platform. Try opening your mind. Xenophobia is likely what will cause the demise of Homo sapiens sapiens.
Chatgpt did not answer my question of when Tangerine implemented this change. My link provides a clue as to when Tangerine implemented this change.

Alexandre: Your comment has perked my curiosity. Are there other factors, that you are comfortable in sharing, that precipitated Tangerine forcing the issue for you?
Nothing out of ordinary for me: tried to login from desktop PC as usual, Tangerine web page told me I must change PIN to password to continue. No option to skip or leave that change for later offered.
Maybe it is gradual rollout, who knows.
I login to Tangerine with password now.

I do, too. I don't believe it was even offered as an option. I had to choose between 1) text message or 2) home phone call. There is no option to skip 2FA.
I chose neither, it wasn't mandatory. I'm logged in and looking at the Security & Login section, it indicates an option to edit 2FA and select either SMS or Phone Call.
I voluntarily chose to change from PIN to password, I was not prompted, maybe that's the difference.

Few days ago Tangerine forced me to change my login PIN to password. In my case, it was not optional.
Last time I logged in, a message saying it's a new way to log in, but gave me the option to skip. My hunch is that will not happen again, and I will be forced to select a PWD next time around.

I have also been on the 2FA for a long time, but received the message to change for a PWD. I'm not sure if it's related, but their 2FA in the last couple of months was not delivering the code in a timely manner, lagging, and that caused after trying to get the code twice to block my access. One time I just lost it, I got a rep on the line and just yakked s**t at the experience. So, he quickly changed my access to enter a security question and a PIN. Now, perhaps they go for a PWD for people with past 2FA reported issues.

I have had the same lag issues, in the past. Sometimes, the text authentication code would take 5-10 minutes to arrive. I patiently completed my business successfully and was not too bothered, because I don't use Tang much. Recently, there have been no lag problems.

Personally, I prefer use of the PIN, because sometimes Tang will be offline via computer and still be available via PIN/phone.

NokomisStation: Coffee gets perked; interest (not the financial kind) gets piqued. From the French, meaning pricked.(I only allowed myself to insert this because so many others were copying the misuse.)
Young Mr. Ed, the etymology of words is indeed a thankless and complex study. Some dictionaries do not agree with the link below:
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/perk
However, stuck in my memory banks when I possessed a brain with much greater plasticity that it presently posseses, I do remember this definition:
2
: to gain in vigor or cheerfulness especially after a period of weakness or depression
—usually used with up
he's perked up noticeably
