Hmmm ... It's a long weekend. Maybe someone just hasn't got around to updating their GIC rate page yet.

It is a glitch. Tangerine Historical Rates says it is effective as of August 5.

I could not resist the opportunity to experiment and since Tang's GIC purchase minimum is minuscule, I opened a $100 GIC for 18 months. My confirmed rate is 5.6%, and the effective date is tomorrow.
So I think it's safe to predict that Tang's 18 month GIC rate will be updated to 5.6% tomorrow.

The link in post #3 shows a one-year GIC rate of 5.25%, the GIC page here shows 5.5%.

Those rates are for a 12 month GIC. The 5.6% rate is for an 18 month GIC, which doesn't appear in the GIC rate table on this site.

I know, it's off topic but I'm just pointing out the discrepancy here in the Tangerine one-year rate disclosure, didn't want to start a whole thread for that (not that I know how to).

Those special terms like 18 months are usually noted at the bottom of the GIC chart page.
