This 4.60% rate seems to be the highest as of November 2025. Chequing options are available, ability to deposit without any limitations/restrictions and likewise withdraw from the savings account without any limitations/restrictions, apart from waiting for cheques to clear. Useful for large sum transactions.

Is it a bad idea for people from other provinces to open an account at a Manitoba CU?

No chequing account required, transfer from external account can start on SCU end.

As I understand it I need to contact SCU To do a pull into the account. Is this a wire transfer? Is there a fee?

I believe I need to do the same to retrieve my funds by contacting my inbound bank and having them do the same? Potentially with a fee?

It’s too bad they don’t have a way to link your external account as so many others do.

That is not what the CSR told me, she say they can link to externally account and transfer fund in and out on their end that can be done online or conducted by CSR.

I've called again and received the same response.

You call Steinbach and they move funds in via a Pre-authorized Debit Instruction.

To return the funds you call your receiving bank to move the funds via a Pre-authorized Debit Instruction.

Steinbach only manages moving funds in.

And now TD indicates they cannot do this and that SCU needs to send the funds back. The TD agent has 30 years experience and spoke with his senior agent - no change to their response. SCU needs to push it back.

SCU is adamant they cannot do so and TD must do so.

SCU could wire it to me for $32 or send me a cheque in the mail for $10 (Via Canada Post so timeline unkown), once I provide them with my banking information. The same information I provided them to initiate the pull in from TD!

Given this I'm trying to cancel the transfer from TD to SCU.

TD can originate pre-authorized debits and direct deposits. Those are called Customer Automated Funds Transfers (CAFT).

The catch is that TD, like many traditional banks, only offers CAFT's to business banking clients and not to their personal banking clients.

SCU is giving wrong information about what TD personal banking clients can do.

The traditional banks don't do direct debits. If Steinbach won't send the cash back, you'll have to route the transfer through another institution that does direct deposit and debit. That's how it's always been with the Big Five.

If I understand it correctly, to move funds in and out of Steinbach, it helps to have an account at financial institution that offers the linking of external accounts for EFT transactions in order to push and pull funds?

Simplii and Alterna Bank are 2 online banks that are well suited for this purpose.
