OfflineThis forum needs an option, like many others offer, to up/down vote comments and to block, i.e. never see, users who persistently ramble off-topic. Moderators need to be more vigorous in shutting down threads that have wandered deep into a forest of irrelevance, paranoia and ignorance. Most readers come here for financial information; a few to buff their egos with the number of posts, however irrelevant, they make. It shouldn't be difficult to banish them from sight forever.

OfflineI suspect this particular software package https://simple-press.com/ may be limited in what it can offer, at least in free form, and as those with any IT background can attest too, customization is a 'make work' project. I would defer to owner of this site to tell us what is 'free form' and what is not.
I am not sure if there is a specific set of Forum rules established but if so, I don't see them front and center, and they should be. Forum rules establish what is expected and what is not, and makes it far easier to suspend and/or ban members.
Personally, I do not believe in popularity contests, so disagree about up/down votes.
Edit: I found in the profile panel, that one can list Adversaries, i.e. members one wishes to ignore.
You can hide posts from certain users if you add them to the poorly named "Adversaries" list in your profile: https://www.highinterestsavings.ca/forum/profile/

I think that's enough, don't want to become like other sites. The value of any post speaks for itself, best to leave it as is. This is a comparatively small scale site and primarily attracts and caters to a certain demographic, which adds invaluable perspective. If people don't like what they see here, there's lots sites like Reddit and Redflag, which might be more to their liking.

I completely agree! Valid posts on Reddit are regularly downvoted for no valid reason.
What is "truth" is not a question of what is most "popular". Socrates, Plato, and other ancients understood that even thousands of years ago.

Offline.
Though no website (or forum) is perfect, this place seems to work just fine.

When a forum thread goes off on an unrelated tangent,
we got two choices. Bring it back to the subject at hand,
or ... Move On.

I agree with the rest, upvoting/downvoting ruin the discussion/site. I actually like this site because there is no upvote, downvote or block distraction/annoyance.
Just ignore the post if you don't like what you read.

OfflineMaybe I'm old school, but I like the "classic" feel of this forum. More splashy bells and whistles tends to take the focus away from the conversation at hand. I have found any disagreements here to be very civil, and this is probably the last forum (of the ones I follow) that I would need to block someone on. Peter seems to be the steady mind at the helm... stay the course

OfflineAgreed with majority that the add-on's suggested might be OK for a high volume, general Forum where controversy might prevail, add-ons like these might serve a purpose.
This Forum is largely informal, with a small, dedicated membership dealing with a relatively narrow topic range that, from my perspective, is cordial, informative and generally respectful...and above all, we are polite Canadians.
No changes in my opinion, Peter!

If it ain't broken, don't break it.Mods are human. I'm a member of another board and clearly the mods there are very subjective and tend to play favourites with members.
Yeah, this site is an oasis of sanity compared to other forums. I would describe it as an almost calming refuge from a world gone mad.
