I received an email promotion today: https://www.firstontario.com/p.....e-offering

Although it looks promising at first glance, I don't think I'm going for this investment for several CONS

1. This is investment instead of savings, and it's not under CDIC. Although I don't think First Ontario has the risk of bankrupt, investment is not saving.
2. The preferred rate is not guaranteed rate. If saving rate drops in the following years, the return would drop as well.
3. Purchasing it is not easy - needs phone call or visiting the branch.

I got the same email. This has run for the hills written all over it.
