OfflineUK banks also do due-diligence on their customers; proof of ID, residency, passport, tax status, Govt. ID, facial recognition, fingerprints etc. You are warned, "Do you know this person or organisation to which these funds are going ?" You are warned of typical scams. Inter-bank back-end processes check the validity of source & destination bank accounts; the names, address, sort codes & account numbers etc to ensure these credentials match those documented in the transfer request. Very large value txns you will be provided with secure OTP & could be phoned. Most of this is automated, so happens significantly faster than in Canada. That's not to say you're not going to get scammed, but the risk-factor & delays are significantly less in the UK because the banking system is unified through the BAC & CHAPS inter-bank transfer systems. If you or the bank suspected a fraud, the bank WILL investigate within 7 days & reverse the transaction where necessary, refunding from the destination bank or from their under-written compensation scheme.

When I logged in @ PC Financial this morning, there was a banner promoting something new. We can now pay PC MC with points but there is a catch - at 70% of face value!I wonder how many will fall for that...
Yes a 30% charge, another totally insane Loblaws ripoff, but typical for Loblaws.
So either people who are desperate, or I saw on the news some people with so many points they cannot spend them.
The only good use for those points is for groceries on sale, that you would buy anyway. Like a bottle of olive oil that is on sale.

A lot of people like to pick on Loblaws because they are the biggest and sometimes because they ask for it. Like this 30% charge on points for MC payments. Plain stupid.
But, I've done well with Loblaws, No Frills, SDM, PC MC and PC Optimum. I go through all flyers (including Metro, Walmart, Farm Boy) every week. 99% of my shopping is Costco, Loblaws, No Frills and SDM). With sales items and optimum offers I do very well and then earn enough PC Optimum points annually to cover about 2 months of groceries annually since 2019. And we eat very well; some would say too well ...

OfflineOn a funny note ...
I was speaking with a PC Financial Customer Service agent recently. She must have said "PC World Master Card Elite" 20 times in 15 minutes. Every single time she pronounced it as "PC World Master Card E-Light". Every time I would respond with emphasis on "Elite" but she just kept coming back with "E-Light".

I agree, if used smartly it can save a lot, like shopping No Frills, using points well, etc. I use PC Points to get "free" frozen veggies weekly, and think of it in those terms. But of course they are all designed to benefit the company.
This 30% PC Point tax one assumes is designed for people who are desperately in debt on their credit card, or stupid.

For many people, English and/or French are not their first language.
