That was so old school 20th century anyway, like the days of toasters from banks.

I always got a Big Kick out of how some folks got All Excited about their cheap Walmart-Quality chocolates from Oaken ... LOL

Brings back fond memories of Entertainment, from the Good Ol' Days. sf-laugh

I'd take 10 more basis points over chocolates any day.

Maybe they will have a Santa Claus special on GIC's before Xmas?

I received chocolates once. I thought it was a nice touch. It wasn't a big thing that cost Home Bank/Trust so much money that it impacted the Interest rates they could offer or their earnings. It was a nice touch.

It was good while it lasted. Probably during a time when Oaken was trying to court customers. I personally never got any, since they stopped the gesture. But, their rates are also much better that most players out there. So, not all lost.

I appreciated their intention no matter how it was expressed. Theirs materialized as chocolates. How many people did we, the contributors, send chocolates to? At least, in this way I am wishing the administrator, Peter, Mary Christmas holidays. In peace, Julio.

I, too, never received any chocolates in all my years with Oaken. But I'd rather get a better interest rate than token gifts or, worst of all, a "chance to win" a token gift.

And I can visit a local branch with only a slight hassle.

This was not bad ... compared to Hubert's Holiday present : they have just lowered their rates today!

RK ⬆️ ... Careful who we point our fingers at

.
Today Hubert is #4, while Oaken is now down to #8 in The Chart.

Welcome to the every-day normal Ebb & Flow of GIC interest rates. sf-smile

Oaken Financial has flatlined in customer growth and direct-to-consumer deposits. It should continue to trend downward for years to come, a slow burn, if you will, unless they want to launch new products, update their online banking platform, and invest significant marketing dollars to compete with the Big Six, Tangerine, Wealth simple, EQ Bank, and, to a lesser extent, Simplii Financial. Wouldn't be surprised if it's ultimately sold in an asset sale, or just runoff.

Cheers,
Doug

Not much difference in rates between #4 and #8

GIC rates are slightly higher at Hubert, but HISA is much better at Oaken. 2.30% vs 2.80%, so depending how you look at it, Oaken can be on top of Hubert.
I have funds at both, so - for the record - I am not disparaging any. Just pointing out that Hubert's Holiday gift was negative this year - that is a fact.
