I just got an email from Oaken saying that they had an unadvertised special bonus of 0.1% that would be added to all GICs purchased today to celebrate their acquisition's closing.
Did others get a similar offer?

It's today & tomorrow + offered to all new gic's see their rate site popup... here's copy of text:
"0.10% is additional to current Oaken GIC posted rates. The new rate will only be shown on your confirmation. This offer is only applicable to new GICs opened between August 31 and September 1, 2023. GIC renewals during this period are not eligible for this offer."

Opened between is not the same as "opened on". If the offer said opened on August 31 and Sept. 1, it would be clear that both days count for the promo.
But opened between could be interpreted as occurring on Aug. 31 and before Sep. 1 arrives.
I plan to play it safe and open mine today.

"Between" turns out to have meant "on" in the Oaken ad, as the promotion is still on today, according to their web site.
I would not have gone out of my way to take it, but I was already moving money into Tang @6% yesterday, and then reached the CDIC insurance limit, so had to put the rest somewhere, and Home Trust @5.6% seemed like as good a place as any.

Actually, there is ... it's called 'The Twilight Zone'. 
Truth be known, I'm pretty sure they're trying to say that we have those two days to take advantage of their +0.10% bonus offer.
Personally, I couldn't be bothered ... as at this time, I can get better deals elsewhere ... and without having to play Oaken's games.
