Never heard of that. All banks that take the currency make it available immediately as far as I know.Bank machines reject currency the machine cannot certify to be genuine. Maybe the bank machine software was not working properly and instead of rejecting the currency, it took it anyhow? I would go into the bank and ask for an explanation.
I took your suggestion - I just phoned Meridian - the agent said hold periods for cash deposits in ATM can vary from 5 days to 10 days - since they felt I was only in for the promo, they put on the max 10 day hold - the agent suggested I deposit cash with a teller and not ATM and it will likely be a much shorter hold.
I don't think this experience helps to encourage me to make Meridian my main bank, when the 4.7% promo ends.

OnlineI opened a new HISA at Meridian in December, with a promo interest rate of 4.7%, never having been a customer before. On Jan 25 I got an email from Meridian offering me a $100 bonus if I also open a chequing account. I had a few questions re the linked terms and conditions, so I phoned them. The agent soon informed me that there is no such current promotion, that it ended in October! Say what?? Why send this out if it is not valid?
Did anyone else recently get this $100 'offer'?
I am awaiting further discussion with Meridian.

OfflineI had a 4.8% offer last May for 4 months,1 month before it ended they sent me an offer.Open a checking acc & get the 4.8% extended for 4 more months.(ch acc was 3$ fee per month)4.8% ended middle of Jan. Transferred most out, 6 fig,& transferred over to Oaken for 2 yr. GIC's at 3.50%.When I receive the int for Jan I will transfer it out & leave 1$ & cancel the Ch acc. Had to call head office for the large transfer.Local branch was not very happy with the transfer out.

OfflineI received a phone call from a financial advisor from Meridian today. She wants to meet with me to discuss products to which I can move the funds from the 4.7% promo Savings account. My promo does not actually expire until March 25 so I told her it was too early to meet - and besides I am only interested in GICs for one year or less for that money. She said I should consider their Market Linked GICs or bond Mutual Funds. At this point, it looks like the funds are not likely to stay at Meridian once the promo ends.
