Ditto but completed online. PS: because I already had a savings account & this offer only applies to new accounts I opened a joint savings account & then transferred the balance from my original savings account to the newly opened joint savings account to get the offer.
Please correct if I'm wrong but I think the terms and conditions state to get the bonus interest the money deposited must be from an external FI.
3. Eligibility Criteria:
b. Eligible Deposit: A deposit is only deemed eligible if the funds being deposited into the Eligible Account have not been deposited in any account type with Meridian within the last one hundred and eighty (180) days prior to opening the Eligible Account. For additional clarity, Eligible Deposits must be transferred to an Eligible Account from a financial institution that is not Meridian or Aviso Wealth;

I only had pennies in my personal Meridian savings account & transferred those pennies into the newly opened joint savings account before closing the personal savings account. I will now pull cash from another FI into the joint account & enjoy 4.7% for the next 122 days.

It's a pity... I only found out today... I'll do it next time... Thank you.

Does opening a joint account mean both people are members?

The membership cannot be cancelled... I want to know if I will be charged a termination fee if there is no account inside, only the membership?![]()
I did not have any accounts associated with my membership and there were no charges.

Yes, as on the joint application form it states "Member name" and "Joint member name".

My husband successfully opened an account... but as an existing member, I am ineligible for the preferential interest rate.

I have been a member for many years & was eligible for the preferential interest rate so at least in my case being a member did not exclude me from getting the preferential interest rate.

Interesting. Wonder how many other existing members also got the preferential rate (if any)?
In my case, I was effectively told to get lost.

I was told the same as far as opening a new savings account under my (solo) name because as far as Meridian was concerned opening a second savings account was not considered NEW. To get around that I opened a new joint savings account with my wife who was also a Meridian customer which Meridian considered a NEW savings account which made this joint account eligible for the preferential rate.

OfflineI got the promo more than a month ago and have a nice balance in the acct.
I happened to deposit some cash (ordinary Canadian banknotes) in the account on January 12 using the Meridian branch ATM - and I note there is a hold on that cash for 2 full weeks. The hold will be lifted this week - of course it is normal to have holds on cheques but it seemed strange to me to have a hold on cash notes for a relatively small amount. It does not really matter - since I am not withdrawing and also since there is more than adequate free funds if I needed to withdraw some cash. Has anyone deposited cash notes into the Meridian ATM and it is on hold for 2 weeks? My very first deposit into this Meridian account was a cheque and the hold was gone after one week.

OfflineNever heard of that. All banks that take the currency make it available immediately as far as I know.
Bank machines reject currency the machine cannot certify to be genuine. Maybe the bank machine software was not working properly and instead of rejecting the currency, it took it anyhow? I would go into the bank and ask for an explanation.

I think it's just the way Meridian operates, I'm still waiting for them to release a small test pull that I initiated 2 weeks ago. It's why I've historically only ever did push and pulls from other financial institutions with Meridian.
