I’ve just spoken to Meridian rep and he said offer is ending Monday, December 15.

Well that is very good of them to provide this much notice... I decided to jump on it late last week; the downside of waiting far outweighed any upside, for me.

COIN, re your post 18,
the promos I referred to were:
Tangarine, 4.5% for 5 months for NEW Customers, which I was.
Manulife Bank, 4.75% for 4 months, open to all, who met the usual criteria, for
such promos. Note: rate was reduced in lock step with the BofC .25% reduction in prior update. I wonder what today will bring, or has already ?

The Bank of Canada decided to hold its rate steady today.

If you want it confirmed, call them directly. If you want an opinion, you've come to the right place.

The early new Dec 15 ending date for this promo is confirmed with a red-letter addition to their offer page.

If anyone is looking to get this, I wouldn't get to cute about waiting to the very last day; the wording would indicate that the 15th is included, and presumably applications on the 15th would be eligible, but if there is any back-office delay in confirming and fully opening the account that might potentially be used as the date, I'd suggest opening now to avoid that potential.

For those submitting promotional deal info here, I'd suggest submitting the link to the Internet Archive Wayback Machine so the original terms are available. It doesn't look like they have a record of this promo page with the original Dec 31 end date.

If recall correctly, the last time they cut it short, some folks were having a bit of a time getting their accounts opened on the last day.

I clicked through the promo which should have opened a "High Interest Savings Account" at 4.7% which has unlimited transactions. Interest rate shows clearly in the new account details as 4.7%

Today on closer examination, I see I got an "Online Advantage Savings" with 4.7% rate, which their website says only gets one self serve transaction per month!

It's a bit confusing, but the same thing happened a year ago when I signed up for the promo. Don't remember how the mystery was solved, but I did a lot of debits one month, never paid for any of them. I think internally, it's considered a HISA.

I am a Meridian customer & thinking this HISA account was a new & different account than my already opened savings account I opened a HISA account only to find out my already opened savings account is considered a HISA savings account so opening a new HISA account is NOT eligible for the 3.85% bonus offer.

Given the Dec.15 date to open a new account, I asked Meridian to confirm that for an existing promo account, any NEW funds deposited after Dec. 15 would get the promo rate. They responded:
"Your rate of 4.70% will remain applicable on your savings account regardless of when the offer period ends. December 15 is simply the deadline to open the account. Since your account is already active and was opened on December xx, your boosted rate will apply for four months and will expire on April xx, 2026. You may continue to deposit additional funds during this period, and they will earn the boosted interest rate until the expiration date in April."

Just being careful.

Yes you are correct.

I asked them via secure message through the app if I had opened the wrong account and they responded today that I had opened the correct account and would earn 4.7% and have unlimited self serve transactions.

Apparently their HISA account is called "online advantage account" and not to be confused with their "advantage" account which only allows one self serve transaction.

The Meridian staff have been really good, much better than a standard bank where everything is offshored. Everything works properly.

They ended this offer early as they have taken in all of the deposits that they need.

Going to take a closer look at Meridian's other services.

It's the morning of the 15th and the offer is no longer on their website.

Ditto but completed online. PS: because I already had a savings account & this offer only applies to new accounts I opened a joint savings account & then transferred the balance from my original savings account to the newly opened joint savings account to get the offer.
