OfflineI moved some funds over to Meridian for the 4.80% promotional interest rate offer for 4 months and I have to say from my experience so far, the external transfers to/from Meridian have been super fast (at times the same day). I just wanted to point that out and if anyone else is experiences the same kind of speeds?
Kind regards,
TD

OfflineTransfer in via their site is limited to $10K. To do more, you have to call in. Either way, it takes 3 bus. days to apply. If you call in, they post the pending transaction so you can see it BUT if you initiate it yourself, for some reason it does not show up as pending. It just shows up in the account 3 bus. days later.
So check deposit or push from outside seems to be fastest options.

Why can't I set up links to other banks through online banking...? Do I need to fill out a paper form manually?![]()
Meridian has the worst online external bank linking process, often requiring having to resort to doing it manually. To make matters worse, once an external account is linked, the process is slow. That's why, if possible, it's best to initiate EFT transfers using another online bank linked to Meridian.

OfflineIF you have a Meridian branch within a reasonable drive, I highly recommend using a personal cheque (to yourself) to move money In and Out of Meridian.
Promo interest starts accruing instantly when you deposit a cheque from say, your TD account; for funds coming out, present your Meridian cheque (to yourself) at TD branch, for example, and if you have a relationship with them, a Mgr can waive the hold, and funds can go directly into a branch acct, or your TDDI account.
On more than one occasion, I've had funds in Mer. HISA in the morning, and those funds are available soon after in my TDDI acct, and by early p.m. had purchased GICs, or ISAs, or securities, whatever.

OfflineHmm, I have a business and a personal account and I can set up connections to other banks very fast for personal but business is restricted like at most banks.

The link above allows me to link to other institution quite fast.
You will probably have to be logged in to use that link

OfflineMeridian: Transfer money between banks with Money Mover describes their Money Mover feature.
There are accounts at certain financial institutions that cannot be linked online. There is a manual form for such accounts:
What if I can’t find my Financial Institution in the drop down list within Online Banking?
Not all Financial Institutions are eligible for digital signup. If you cannot find your chosen FI, we recommend you signing up for Money Mover manually by downloading the form (PDF, 252 KB).

Yeah I get your point, there is a drop down too and I guess others have to be manual but that is the same at most banks they only link automatically to some of the other big banks.
I find the list at Meridian bigger than most for auto connect.
I'm trying to connect to other banks like this... but I haven't been able to connect successfully for two days... Is it because I only opened the account two days ago?

OfflineI have set up a link -- manually, just not comfortable with the auto link route-- from my Manulife account to my new Meridian account.
I guess I goofed somewhere along the way, as when I did my first transfer, it landed -- next day evening, since it was a push-- in checking account, not the desired savings account
I was concerned that in then moving it from checking to savings, it would not be eligible for 4.7& rate
However, I have queried them-- via secure message-- and they have assured me that it is indeed eligible.
So, that's a plus for me

OfflineMeridian's Money Mover linkage appears not to use either Flinks or Plaid, but "MX", which presumably hasn't got interaction interfaces with as many banks as the big two. Big6 banks, the three big no-fee chequing banks (EQ, Tangerine, Simplii), and a sprinkling of large credit unions and a couple other federal banks. No Wealthsimple, PeoplesTrust or Manulife, no Manitoba credit unions, etc.
MX is out of Utah, and looks like they claim their data storage is in the US. I think Flinks/Plaid claim their Canadian data is stored in Canada, although you'd want to check that if it made a difference to you.
Unless your FI is on the list and you need the linkage fast, doing the manual form upload with a void cheque avoids possible issues with third-party linking companies. Some places have removed this option, or made it harder, and when forced to use e-linkage I always first change my password, and change back right after the linking is done, although that is a pain. You may still have your data at the linkage company for whatever research or other use they are allowed to put it to, but at least that way your permanent passwords have never been out there.
