OfflineI cannot believe it won't work in your new computer unless a hardware requirement is missing. Make sure the following requirements are ALL met and it should work.
TT 2024 Requirements

- Adobe Reader 10 or higher (or compatible PDF reader). Not included with TurboTax Installer.

OfflineYes, something is really weird. Their requirements state 1GHz processor speed but the message it throws up states 2GHz. Also, CPU speed should not be a limiting factor. It may take longer but should still be allowed to work.
I would call them and get an explanation and a refund if they don't fix the problem.
TT Canada system requirements are here:

Curious if you did a thorough scan for malware on the Mini-PC. I have been thinking of purchasing one, but I have seen reports that some were discovered to have pre-installed malware.
Get decent laptop. Why bother with some cheap puny 'mini PC'??? I see no point as you still need keyboard, monitor, mouse, etc.
And even if you really want that toy then put OS you want and do not accept whatever is installed. I am sure installed OS comes with a lot of garbage 'add-ons'.

OfflineLaptop, as in house device, has too many sacrifices. If I need screen larger than smartphone but smaller than TV, I can use tablet that I have.
I need desktop for office-like activities, and it is in my office. I am taking standard size keyboard, FHD monitor, mouse and so on that I already have and attaching it to new mini-PC. My only expense is mini-PC.
I used to buy standard desktops that could last at my house for about 10-12 years, with hardware upgrades. I ran numbers for my personal desktop that lived for that much: all in all, with original price and upgrades, it did cost me $1,000 over 10 years. $100/year is not bad.
Except, it is 10 years old. I figured that if I buy mini-PC every 3-4 years, I'll be financially not worse than before, but with new hardware every 3-4 years.
My old mini-PC I am decommissioning is 4 years old, which I bought for $220. New mini-PC I just put in use I bought for $150 (thank you for the great deal, Amazon!) - it has faster CPU, twice RAM and double SSD size.
It also has 2.5GBps LAN, which is quite handy as my Internet link is 1.5GBps. My old mini-PC has gigabit LAN.
All in all, if new mini-PC lasts another 3-4 years, financially I'll be doing just as well or better as if I bought standard desktop 8 years ago.
Oh, and one more thing: this new mini-PC draws just 10W when in use. FHD monitor attached to it, for comparison, draws 20W! Impressive energy efficiency.
It is also very quiet.

Malware is a concern, but I think what I've got is clean. This is brand I've been tracking for some time on Amazon (meaning it did not just appear briefly and disappear), they sold hundreds of mini-PCs in short period of time on Amazon Canada alone. If someone smarter than me have noticed malware they would have reported it in feedback section already.
They sell mini-PC with clean Windows 11 Pro install, with no bloatware added.
I enabled maximum protection Windows can offer, also CPU is not taxed when PC is idle. No obvious symptoms of malware present.
The brand: BOSGAME. Check them if you are interested, they have large selection on Amazon Canada, my choice was their mini-PC with Intel N100 CPU, 2.5GBps Ethernet, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD.
Just be aware, you can't install TurboTax on it. Which is TurboTax fault. 🙁

I don't know anything about that specific software but the cloud storage would likely be whatever the corporate entity has contracted as a third party for its business.I refuse to use any tax software which is online/web based with the tax file stored external to my computer. Hence certain packages would be a non-starter for me.
Looks like everyone should be concerned about cloud storage.

Exactly!
I do believe at one time Turbo Tax had Mac version but it was all in the cloud. And it was hard to find.
Thus the use of Studio Tax for many years. No issues, easy to buy and support is excellent.
And Turbo Tax is developed in the USA and Studio Tax is developed here in Canada.

OfflineJust updated TurboTax to the latest version (as offered).
After updating and staring it again big message appears:
Windows 10 support ends on 2025.10.14. TurboTax will work for tax year 2024 but MAY NOT for 2025 and beyond.
So Intuit is forcing customers to upgrade their perfectly sound computers?? Same as phone apps are forcing people to get a new phones because apps stop working on older OS?
Just great...
Maybe it is time to switch to UFile...

OfflineIntuit is providing advance notice they may not be ensuring TurboTax 2025 will work on Windows 10.
It is not unusual for software providers to say it may not be operational on an OS that is no longer supported. There is no assurance any other 2025 tax software provider at that time will be any different. One will have to wait and see what the qualifiers are at that time.
TurboTax is American owned and developed anyway. Maybe time to switch to a home grown option?

I am thinking after the fiasco with CPU speed check, they decided to be proactive to the max.
One could buy TurboTax license only to find later they can't install TurboTax on their PC. Not very many people can figure they can download Windows installer and try it first, to see if it runs. Finding it on TurboTax Web site, before buying license, is not intuitive.
License is non-refundable, there could be a lot of negative feedback trashing their brand. Which they don't really need on top of bad publicity they are getting already.

OfflineI see on http://www.theregister.com that Microsoft has closed or is about to close those hardware-lock kluges. Don't count on them!
