I contacted the member services staff today via their online instant messaging. There was a laundry list of questions which were answered by very friendly staff. I had focused interest about the collection and storage of personal information.
In consideration of new membership requirements, I queried about process, privacy, security and similar. Perhaps, through several iterations, I did not ask the questions with enough sharp clarity... or perhaps they are not fully prepared to answer questions that are diving down the due diligence hole... because I could not get clear answers about the collection and storage of identification and other personal information. (Think of data security breaches at Lifelabs, Equifax, BC Interior Health, CRA & partners, etc.)
The staff informed me that a person could become a member through the option of submitting to a third party collector of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) = Thirdstream (yuk, double yuk). Alternatively, a person could complete the electronic documents (Docusign company) and attach a copy of the gov't issued identification (ID) and a "selfie" photo.
I have perused (quickly) their terms and conditions document. "Identification" is only stated once and that pertains to referencing a specimen signature. The words "photo", "driver", or "passport" cannot be found. Also, I looked at the privacy web page, yet found near similar results -- simply no particulars about the collection, storage, security and privacy etc etc of PII, most particularly the digital copies of ID.
For those of you whom recently had experience with the membership process, or anyone else with specific knowledge of their current process, what are they requiring of a person relating to identification, how are they collecting it, and where/with whom are they storing it?
Would appreciate any insight you can bring to the forum.
