...up to $1million - but only insured up to 100,000.

I wouldn't go near them in any event. My last encounter was enough to put me off forever.

My fund is currently at Meridian for 2.85% interest which will end in Sep 30.
Seeing that HSBC offers 3.5% till Nov 15, I plan to move fund from Meridian to HSBC tomorrow Sep14 with a $7 draft (keep the account open). My question is: will my Meridian Advantage savings account still earn the interest from Sep1 to Sep13?

My experience with RBC, Scotia and Tangerine is that they pay interest till the day you withdraw. The deposit usually happens at the beginning of next month.

I withdrew all money from Meridian today with a bank draft but surprisingly the interest from the 1st two weeks of Sep was included with a given choice of closing the account.

In my opinion, I think the DUCA 3.25% offer 'til 3 Dec is the better offer with 250K insured.

You are right. I misread Duca offer period and did not feel good about re-opening the account (closed it a few months ago after last promo) perhaps with additional credit hit.

What was the problem you had with HSBC?

Yes, DUCA does a hard credit check.
They claim it is to protect all members, as fraud happens in other ways than with credit. I found this annoying but they would not budge as it's a matter of policy. They may be right; I don't know.

Very difficult, time-consuming, protracted process of redeeming RSP. It took two visits, a few weeks, and several hours of waiting around. I may have documented this on another thread. It consisted of one mutual fund from their own in-house offerings.
The staff were nice but I had the impression at least one of them was not impressed with working there due to antiquated systems.

Can someone clarify. The entire promo is until November 15th and you earn the "up to" 3.5% up until November 15th OR do you have until November 15th to open this account. If the latter, how long does the promo rate go for?

I am thinking its the former, that is, you only earn the promo rate until November 15th, which means the promo rate lasts only for ~2months, if this is the case, not worth it sf-confused
