OfflineHello,
I am a long time lurker, first time poster on the High Interest Savings Forum. I noticed the GIC Chart on the site does not include account type and terms that are shorter than 1 year.
To help myself and others find these niche GIC's, I launched a completely free, no ads, no signup website that compares all the published GIC rates I could find online - https://rateinfo.ca
I would love to hear feedback from y'all about the site.

OnlineUnless you are looking to foment Ontario-resentment and Canadian disunity, you might want to have a way to let visitors indicate their jurisdiction, and if not Ontario, eliminate the listings for all the pokey little Ontario credit unions that I'm pretty sure require you to be a resident of Ontario to join. The Manitoba online divisions allow pan-Canadian membership, although some financial institutions (CU or not) do not allow Quebec residents.
For short-term GICs, the dropdown has "<= 1 year" (picks up the entire range of 1-year GICs) and "<= 6 months", which means there is no way to get just <1-year listings, and you have to sort the "<= 1 year" to list by duration anyway.

OfflineI agree with above comments.
For me, a table would be much more practical - FI and term. Maybe two tables, one <1 year and one for 1 year+. Filters for account type, currency, and maybe residency requirement. Sortable by term.
Also missing a few of the larger FIs - Oaken, some of the big 6 as examples.

It’s nice and clean looking. I expected to have to press an enter key when I made a change,,,,but don’t have to, which is nice. The boxes could include more information.
I don’t see Vancity 30 or 90 day (1 year) lock-in GICS
I don’t see Hubert quarterly GIC (1 year).
At this point I didn’t pursue to look for people’s 30 day .. 90 day GICS.
I have a use for knowing rates for less than a year…but can’t see using your site.

I think anything shorter than 1 year would be classified as a high interest savings account.
I think what is presented is a good idea. A short term GIC is, its own category.
As a sanity check I use this site every now and then.

Good points and upon first viewing….appears to lean towards the east of which some of us in BC would have no use for looking at the extra “clutter”. So perhaps a province tab could be added…but some how include Manitoba for us BCers.

Thank you so much! Those links are going in my bookmarks forsure.
OP: I applaud your effort at making a resource for us, but the way it is laid out is not near as useful as a chart (like Peter's awesome one which is sortable and has rate histories). When I clicked all GIC's, I found I could not filter by a particular term, your drop down menu just gave ranges. Please post on this thread again if you give the layout an overhaul and I will try it again, but in its current state it just isn't a quick and easy resource for me.

Yes I agree most of the time it’s good. And am not complaining. For me I like to bullet proof my savings accounts by adding another level of protection and use cashable GICS as long as the rate is higher as the HISA rate. I use lock-in GICS at Vancity and the quarterlies GICS at Hubert. As you can see the OP’s site does not include Vancity’s as per below.

So as what the OP suggests….that Peter’s site “does not include account type and terms that are shorter than 1 year” ……nor does the OP’s. Thus rendering his efforts to not be helpful in regards to GICS shorter than one year.

OfflineYour site uses the term "banks" when it really means banks and credit unions.
I don't deal with credit unions, I can't be the only one, it would be useful to screen by all banks only, for me.
The <1 year filter should not list 1-year term gics.
Otherwise a good start, I'd use if it were truly filtering out all under one year terms for banks only.
Cannex doesn't list 1 - 11 month gics either, far as I've seen.
