Questrade brokerage will obtain a banking license in early 2026.

I guess Wealthsimple can expect some more competition.

Questbank was incorporated as a bank in March:

OFFICE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS

BANK ACT

Questbank — Letters patent of incorporation

Notice is hereby given of the issuance, pursuant to section 22 of the Bank Act, of letters patent incorporating Questbank and, in French, Questbank, effective March 6, 2025.

March 29, 2025

Peter Routledge
Superintendent of Financial Institutions

Questrade Financial Group said Questbank received its operating license today. It can begin carrying on business as a bank starting today.

Questrade is totally trying to take on WS.

WS has done "The End Of Banking?" and "For Nerds Only" livestreams recently.
Now I get an email that QT is doing "The Dawn Of Investing" livestream soon.

Good to see some competition. I have hardly any funds at WS anymore (just a few penny stocks), but they are the reason I am enjoying commission free trading and all-in-one HISA accounts (among other benefits) at other FI's. Hopefully QT and others can keep pushing this innovation that keeps eliminating legacy fees and processes for us average folk.

Questrade is trying to keep up. It tried to copy WS interface but it's still not quite as slick and efficient.

Questrade removed the commissions but it was too late, I already moved out.

Questrade offered a 2% bribe to return but I wasn’t interested because I found WS that little bit better, faster and more helpful and I like that they keep making their products better and better.

I like Questrade (far more than the likes of TDDI) and it's a good thing for clients and competition that they are moving into banking. Hopefully they can offer more soon.
