Just got the email -- max cumulative balance increased from 200k to 500k. Used to be just for pre-2016 and joint account holders.

We’ve increased the maximum cumulative balance for non-registered savings accounts* from $200,000 to $500,000.

This update is effective immediately, and no action is required on your end.

Sincerely,

EQ Bank

*Applies to combined balances across Personal Account, Joint Account, 10-day Notice Savings Account, 30-day Notice Savings Account, and US Dollar Account (CAD equivalent).

Some of them do to manage the amount of uninsured deposits.

Alterna Bank limits their High Interest eSavings account to $250,000 plus interest per customer.

Scotiabank requires pre-approval for their brokerage ISA's (like DYN6004) on deposits over $50 million.

Well I'm not placing my 50 in one FI, not even one of the big six!

EQ Bank still has a $100k limit on each GIC. You need to open more than one if you have >$100k to invest. I had $120k last time, so opened two at $60k each.
Makes no sense. Why would they do that?
