By today's standards, that's not a bad deal! But the way the trend in interest rates are going now (), I prefer to lock-in for a much shorter period of time, and go with the likes of Hubert's quarterly-cashable 1yr term @ 2.00%.

Fast-forward ~ 10-12 months from now, I'm guessing both these rates will seem like 'Chump Change'. That will likely be the time to lock-in for longer terms.

Time will tell,

Seems everybody is expecting multiple BoC rate hikes in the next 24 months. I am watching GIC terms between one to three years (e.g. 15m, 18m, 30m) ... here's waiting for one of mine to also reach 2.25% for under 2 yrs term.

yeah I think 2yr terms can get to 2.75% by this year end. 3-5 yrs will get compressed relatively and only have 5y upto 3.75% maybe

I hear you. But I went with it since I’m already at Accelerate and it’s an RRSP which just came due so I wanted to get the clock running on it asap. I didn’t want to shift it over to Oaken for 1.9 for 12 months which as a quebecer was my next best choice.

Big disappointment today as the Bank of Canada didn't raise the Bank of Canada rate. We'll have to wait 'til March when America raises the Fed funds rate.
