Dear Rose,
This is to hopefully answer some of your questions, Andrew is right, you can get a free checking account with ING. Or PC Financial. Both of these are online banks. I also had that troubled experience of opening an online account because i dont have a pre-printed checks before. I do have starter checks (from Coast Capital Savings and Scotiabank) but not pre-printed checks. I actually made a topic on it lat Dec2010:

now, after you read that topic, which at the end was solved by Doug. My best bet is that, if you want to have a pre-printed check, FIRST-of-ALL, you go a PC Financial Pavilion. Apply for a PC Financial Checking account. Remember, this is a free checking account. No minimums. After a week, they will mail you a checkbook-free! Then you can use that pre-printed checkbook to open another online checking or savings account like ING. Or Ally. Or Canadian Direct Financial. Or Canadian Tire. The choice is wide open my friend for you to explore. Which I exactly did. By the way, if you happen to open an ING Thrive Account, it will ask you for an orange key that you can get from another ING user [Key removed by admin: please do not post referral codes on this site]. I did not know about this promo before so when i opened my account with them I did not get any bonus. Haha. Loser! Okay, lets go back to the original topic: Right now, I have two pre-printed checkbooks — given free! One from PC Financial and another from ING. I like the look of PCFinancial's checks compared to ING's thrive but this is only my opinion.
And to answer your question: "…Does anyone know if I can link an account from one online bank with another account with another online bank? For example, can I link an account with ING to another account with ALLY so I can transfer money between them. Thanks…"
YES. Officially it is yes. I just did this and my experience is linking of ING to PC Financial. Both of these are online banks. This automatically happened when I opened my ING account using PC Financial Checks. I just moved money from ING to PC Financial. Online to online. ING's EFT (Electronic Fund Transer) is a breeze. It would take about 2 days though as the website says. Just go to their menu "Move my money" then select "Transfer My Money" then enter the amount, choose the "From Account" [which is obviously ING Thrive Checking] and then the "To Account" [my PCFinancial Account which was under CIBC]
I'll send another EFT Agreement to Canadian Direct Financial that way, I can transer my money from ING to CDF when I want to. But then CDF charges $2.50 per EFT transfer so unless your transferring large money, it does not make sense to do that. Why not just make a deposit thru the Exchange Network ABMs anyway? I have read most if not all of that ING's FAQ I did not see any if they do charge a fee for EFT. Its free I guess since when I transferred some money from ING to PCF there is no other fees deducted on my balance. Hope this helps.
