We may have discussed this in threads in the past but it is a good reminder and the link does a pretty good job of the main 'red flags'. I am a senior senior soon to be an octogenarian and have prepared best I can. To comment on the 5 points:

1. Absolutely went to auto payment as much as possible years ago. Only a few recurring things remain for 'manual initiation' and that is property taxes, income tax owing Apr 30, and my auto insurance/registration which needs signatures anyway. Even my tax instalments to CRA are set on auto-pay. I have Enduring POA for a family member. I took on that responsibility on condition he put everything he could on auto-payment.

2. Not much anyone can do about it if I fall into that trap, other than my POA recognizing my decline and persuading me to hand over the reins.

3. Similar to 2 above. I do have 'trusted contacts' set up for my brokerage accounts, all of which however are self-directed. I am however not convinced there is sufficient brokerage oversight of such accounts vs advisor managed accounts. Again, it would be best for me to soon give my POA trading rights so that he could see/monitor my actions in my brokerage accounts.

4. I am not a believer in adding an offspring as a JTWROS owner of any of my accounts for all the reasons stated. I view Enduring POA as the proper way to do this.

5. I have had updated Wills, and enduring POA, in place for decades. This includes digital Wills and the proper lists of assets and where held, access to my Password Manager, and guidance via IPS (Investment Policy Statement) for my investment accounts.

Not explicitly stated but similarly important as one ages. Simplicity is key. Avoid proliferation of accounts (bank and investment) and keep investment accounts simple with minimal holdings of ETFs.

Yes, exactly. The situation is even worse because under these new terms I got to keep the funds through October and in fact have to keep funds until the bonus is paid to move out principal and bonus together. Otherwise I would have to pay withdrawal fee for the bonus, which is substantial percentage.

So they claim it will now be paid in December instead of August ? That may be harder to fix if their system confirms you are eligibale and qualified, just a matter of when the bonus will be handed out. Talking about a 4 months timing difference. I have learnt that just because one of their staff 'messed up', the bank does not have to own up to it....
I had a similar incident but its different cos I met all new account requirements but they claimed i did not due to some technicality. Ended up raising the issue 2 levels up, and they manually approved and pay out the amount the next day.

February this year I enrolled in ScotiaBank’s special Bonus offer. ScotiaBank offered $1500 bonus for depositing >$100k into registered account (RRSP in my case).
I was doing this transaction with Financial Advisor. Of a particular interest was question: when the bonus would be paid. Terms and Conditions we got at that time said ‘within 3 months from May 31st, 2026'. I saved copy of the text of 'Terms and Conditions'.
In addition I questioned the Financial Advisor 3 times: when the bonus will be paid? The answer was consistent: by Aug. 31st. I got physical evidence of this: my two hand-written notes and Advisor’s Email saying the same.
Aug. 31st came and gone and the bonus did not arrive.
When I inquired with the Advisor (who does not work in Burnaby branch anymore) and with branch manager about my Bonus I was answered that according to terms and conditions it should be paid in December. When I showed Terms and Conditions I copied I got told these are wrong terms and conditions. The advisor admits, vaguely, that he made a mistake. Yet not the Advisor nor Branch Manager comes up with the Bonus.

My understanding: it can not be that customers of the bank suffer because of the mistakes of the bank’s personnel.

I took it with them both but did not get anywhere.
Complaint was filed but no response.

What should be my next step?

Maybe a CIRO complaint. They will not get you your money, but it could pressure them, if they fall under them.

had something similar at Assiniboine Credit Union — they tried to sell me a GIC on "trust me" terms, with no contract for rate and length.
