Has anyone moved their funds prior to their "promo targeted rate" expiring, effectively declining the tiered rate offer? Did you then receive any new "targeted" offers before the expiry date of the tiered rate email? I received the tier rate email yesterday and my tier rates start on September 1st and runs until February 28/27. I am going to move my funds from Tangerine on August 31st and see if this results in a better "targeted offer".

To my knowledge, there is no declining of a tier rate. It is not an offer, it is a "gift".

I do not doubt anything that's been written on this subject but just for information:

I just had a live chat with a agent at Tangerine and I got a complete different answer meaning that the money on hold count for the total daily balance immediately and will receive the new calculated tiered rate base on the new total amount.

He also said that the new rate will be showed on account detail after the new total daily balance calculation.

Not the first time we get conflicting information from a Tang agent.

Perhaps it's a question of timing? Like it may not happen immediately when the $ arrive but retroactively when the hold is released. Speculating ... 🙂

@RYAN By your question I think you understand the tier rates incorrectly.

I understand it is one *total* balance at end of day to determine the tier rate for that day. And that rate is used to calculate one day's interest on the balance of each eligible savings account.

... I added more funds to reach the next tier yesterday but my rate didn't change. Tangerine told me on-hold amount does not count toward the eligible *total* balance! My new tier rate applies when the hold is released.

@cgouimet ... I don't think it will be retroactive
@Slybanking ... I will check daily on the rate displayed and the hold in my account.

The rates you posted are not very competitive IMO when compared to Wealth One's as you start with 2.60% and only need at least $25,000 to get the 3% rate. Not sure many customers will have over $500,000 to get the top 3.50% rate. I have all my money with Wealth One and am very happy earning 3% while I wait for higher promotional HISA offers from Tangerine and Simplii.

I had been on tiered rates until May 31st (much lower rates, though), then got the 4.25% (for new money only) until Aug 31st and now I will be again on tiered rates from Sept. 1 2016 to Feb 28 2027. At least the 100K+ rate is not less than at Manulife. I had not used the tiered rates before, but I may use them this time - but only when I will not find a better rate somewhere else.

My tiered rate is 2.0% for up to $500K in funds, for the whole calendar year of 2026. Of course I moved my money elsewhere before January 2026. Now comes Summer, I am getting 4.0% promo offer till end of August. With the reminder that in September I am back to 2.0% for the rest of the year.
4.0% is quite good offer, so I moved money to Tangerine and will empty my Tangerine accounts last week of August.
