My offer was for 3.0%. I'm sure they won't give me anything better, so I accepted. It beats their regular 0.3%.

But I will not move any funds there yet. Much of my cash is currently at Tang getting 4.1% til the end of October; after that I will see what is available. This includes Hubert's quarterly GIC starting at 3.45% and averaging 3.75% over a year.

† This special interest rate offer is available starting on October 7, 2026 and ending on January 31, 2027 at 11:59 pm UTC (the “Offer Period”), by invitation only, to primary account holders of a Simplii Financial High Interest Savings Account opened before the Offer Period (an “Eligible HISA”). Account holders must enroll their Eligible HISAs in the offer through online banking or by contacting Simplii Financial.

The special annual interest rate of 3.00% is a combination of regular annual interest rate (“Regular Interest”) and promotional annual interest rate (“Promotional Interest”) set by Simplii Financial. Any change to the Regular Interest will result in a corresponding change to the Promotional Interest so that the overall special annual interest rate will remain 3.00% from the date of enrolment until the end of the Offer Period.

Regular Interest is calculated daily at the current rate applicable to the Eligible HISA balance on each day’s full closing balance. Promotional Interest is calculated daily on each day's closing balance that exceeds the closing balance as at October 1, 2026 (the “Additional Balance”) up to a maximum balance limit of $1,000,000. Eligible HISAs will earn Promotional Interest from the date of enrolment until the end of the Offer Period. Regular Interest and Promotional Interest are paid monthly. For clarity, Promotional Interest is paid within the first two business days following the month in which it was calculated. Promotional Interest will only be paid if the enrolled Eligible HISA is active and in good standing at the time of payment. After the Offer Period, all balances will continue to earn interest at the Regular Interest rate only. For the current regular interest rates, visit our rates page.

This offer is non-transferable and cannot be combined with other promotional rate offers. This offer may be withdrawn, cancelled, or changed without notice, at any time, for any reason. Promotional and regular interest rates are subject to change without notice. Other conditions apply.
Hopefully it will be the end of their silly games when targeting lame promo interest rate offers where they lowball you to see if you'll bite, then come back later if you decline claiming you won and they'll pay more now, which is still too low. In my view their previous brand relaunch was a disaster, no doubt the person who came up with it got promoted with a salary increase.

I never understood why a financial institution would do a credit check on you when it is you giving them the money? Does it mean they will refuse to accept your money if your credit score is below their standard? "Sorry we can't accept your money. Please go away."

This credit score thing has run .................

A TD rep tried that with me. I recognized the info he was asking for was for a know-your-client form for an investment account. I told him I'm not interested in mutual funds and there is no requirement for a suitability determination to place funds in a cashable GIC.

Just an FYI, I was checking my credit score today and noticed that Simplii pulled two hard credit inquires on me, one when I applied for a promo HISA, and another when it ended, three months apart.

I've open many many banks accounts over the years and I've never encountered this. During the account opening process, they didn't tell me it would be a hard credit hit, let alone two of them. This is not required in any way, shape or form for an HISA. By doing this, they are trying to determine what credit services are appropriate to try to sell you and what rate to charge you, even if you have no intention of ever borrowing $ from them. You pay for that in the form of your credit score being reduced. This shouldn't be allowed but here we are.

The last 2.5% offer I ignored was in the middle of June (until Sep 30), then yesterday I got a 3.0% (until Sep 30 again), which I'm still going to ignore for already having a better one elsewhere.

This is a silly game which I'm sure some AI algo is being trained on to see what's the least number of days, resistance and acceptability threshold and a hundred other parameters there are to test for everyone.

So far I'm not blinking.

I accepted the 3% offer until September 30th, after repeatedly turning down the 2.5% offer and recently completing a survey from Simplii in which I criticized their low promotional rates. I accepted the 3% offer because I needed to park my funds somewhere else once my 4.25% offer with Tangerine expires on August 31st. Hopefully, I will receive a better offer from Tangerine in September or October.
