No official documentation of this. But, I placed an order for some bonds that met those two conditions. Estimated commission shown was $0.00. The order filled and the confirmation slip showed no commission charged. 🙂

Scotia iTRADE is still unofficially waiving their $1 per $1,000 bond commission on small buy orders of bonds maturing within 89 days.

It's better than what CIBC and RBC is offering for their HISA.

CIBC tiered from 0.30% to 0.60%
RBC all balanced 0.550%

I do hope CIBC and RBC will follow these rates.

Scotia Bank is offing better Tiered HISA rates at Tangerine. So that would be an improvement but still less than a GIC ladder.

As for CDIC, $500k in a single CDIC client/category would be OK with me for the big 6 and their offsprings and perhaps a few others like EQB and Oaken ...

The better option is still to own Scotia's DYN6004 (brokerage based ISA) in one's brokerage account, depending on one's brokerage where every dollar earns 2.2%. Better yet, own a Money Market mutual fund like BMO95142 in an investment account which is currently in the 2.3% range.

I was a new RBC customer. It wouldn’t let me do it online, so this was the fastest way to get my identity verified. The woman on the phone wasn’t exactly quick, but after a pretty slow process she did manage to get it done. For my current BMO account, I was able to open it online, but I still had to go into a branch to get verified, so in the end it wasn’t really any better and actually took more time.

Honestly, the big banks are all pretty archaic. For my primary banking I use an online FI, and I’m really just hopping around with the big banks for the promos.
