Obviously, most of us like to think in dollar terms, so it's 1000 = $1. Maybe 50,000 points in the offer makes it seem much more valuable and generous?

If PC Financial doesn't get suspicious, then the limit would be the maximum Tangerine Bank would generate the pre-authorized debit for.

PC Financial doesn't seem keen to have lots of funds in the PC Money account. Pulling funds in used to be limited to $1,000/day. I think the limit is now $25,000/day, $50,000 every 30 days.

I suspect their goal is for the account holder to spend incoming funds through the associated pre-paid Mastercard so that they collect the 1.44% or 1.55% interchange. The goal isn't for holders to move $100,000+ in, transfer it to the savings balance, and collect high interest.

Update - problem finally resolved......

On January 16th, PC Financial finally credited the Savings portion of my PC Money account with the interest that the account earned but was still owed for both November and December, 2025. To recap, I had brought the issue of the missing interest to their attention by submitting a complaint on December 15th, escalating it to their Executive Customer care unit on December 29th and submitting a second separate complaint on January 12.

The deposits for the interest payments for November and December were backdated to when they should have occurred (December 1, 2025 and January 2, 2026). I discovered the backdated interest payments when logging into my PC Money account on January 16th. It took longer than it should have, but at least it's finally resolved - hopefully once and for all!

A few days later I actually got a call from PC Financial when they officially informed me of the backdated interest payments and apologized for the trouble they caused. As compensation, they credited me with an additional 25,000 PC Optimum pts (worth $25). Not really worth the hassle, but better than it could have turned out - so definitely a relief to have it resolved

Later the same day (after the phone call) I also received an e-mail from PC Financial indicating that they had resolved the issue. I never received an explanation for why they missed the interest payments in the first place, so I can't provide any insights on how they buggered that up.

Will definitely monitor the account closely going forward, but for now at least everything seems to be ok - I am hoping it stays that way....

Their debit card is ... so, my hope is that they'll try to differentiate themselves from everyone else with a no forex fee credit card.

PC Financial's Spending account "debit card" – really prepaid Mastercard credit card – is fx-fee exempt similar to EQ Bank's offering. I sense [TV advertising, etc] that EQ wants to compete with Wealthsimple and its hard-to-obtain fx-fee free Visa. A real credit card, with or without fx fees, would be a nice addition to EQ's product line.
