I received a phone call from a financial advisor from Meridian today. She wants to meet with me to discuss products to which I can move the funds from the 4.7% promo Savings account. My promo does not actually expire until March 25 so I told her it was too early to meet - and besides I am only interested in GICs for one year or less for that money. She said I should consider their Market Linked GICs or bond Mutual Funds. At this point, it looks like the funds are not likely to stay at Meridian once the promo ends.

I opened a new HISA at Meridian in December, with a promo interest rate of 4.7%, never having been a customer before. On Jan 25 I got an email from Meridian offering me a $100 bonus if I also open a chequing account. I had a few questions re the linked terms and conditions, so I phoned them. The agent soon informed me that there is no such current promotion, that it ended in October! Say what?? Why send this out if it is not valid?

Did anyone else recently get this $100 'offer'?

I am awaiting further discussion with Meridian.

I took your suggestion - I just phoned Meridian - the agent said hold periods for cash deposits in ATM can vary from 5 days to 10 days - since they felt I was only in for the promo, they put on the max 10 day hold - the agent suggested I deposit cash with a teller and not ATM and it will likely be a much shorter hold.
I don't think this experience helps to encourage me to make Meridian my main bank, when the 4.7% promo ends.

I think it's just the way Meridian operates, I'm still waiting for them to release a small test pull that I initiated 2 weeks ago. It's why I've historically only ever did push and pulls from other financial institutions with Meridian.

I got the promo more than a month ago and have a nice balance in the acct.
I happened to deposit some cash (ordinary Canadian banknotes) in the account on January 12 using the Meridian branch ATM - and I note there is a hold on that cash for 2 full weeks. The hold will be lifted this week - of course it is normal to have holds on cheques but it seemed strange to me to have a hold on cash notes for a relatively small amount. It does not really matter - since I am not withdrawing and also since there is more than adequate free funds if I needed to withdraw some cash. Has anyone deposited cash notes into the Meridian ATM and it is on hold for 2 weeks? My very first deposit into this Meridian account was a cheque and the hold was gone after one week.

I was told the same as far as opening a new savings account under my (solo) name because as far as Meridian was concerned opening a second savings account was not considered NEW. To get around that I opened a new joint savings account with my wife who was also a Meridian customer which Meridian considered a NEW savings account which made this joint account eligible for the preferential rate.
