Their web site people are not the best.

In November 2024, EQ Bank online banking logins gave "Technical difficulties. We don't like them either, …" for a whole day!

Turned out my accounts were locked out. The agent claimed it was because of multiple two-factor authentication failures by me. I responded "No." No screen asking for the one-time code appeared. No one-time codes were e-mailed.

Dim wits! If account was locked out, then write the bit of extra @#$! code to say "Accounts locked. Please call…" instead of using a vague catch-all "Technical difficulties…" message.

I have tried both Edge and Chrome. On Friday, it would send the security code but the page to input the code would not load. Today, I can't even get to the page to enter my password. Have contacted EQ and they will respond in 3 to 5 business days. All of my other websites are loading normally.

In the past, I've had problems signing on to my EQ Bank account when I used the Firefox browser. Turning off the UBlock Origin plugin does not resolve it and I'm forced to use Chrome in order to sign on.

But sometimes even when I sign on using Chrome, clicking around gets me disconnected and I have to sign back on. They are one of the worse online banking websites I've seen.

This AI summary supports what Norman1 just posted:

EQB Inc. (parent of EQ Bank) acquired PC Financial from Loblaw for \(\$800\) million. While EQB bought the banking platform, Mastercard portfolio, and became the exclusive financial partner for the PC Optimum program, Loblaw retained ownership of both the PC Financial brand trademark and the PC Optimum loyalty program. Key Details of the Deal:

What EQB Acquired: The banking operations, PC Mastercard products, PC Money Account, and all affiliated entities of PC Financial.

What Loblaw Retained: Ownership of the PC Financial brand name and trademark, as well as the PC Optimum loyalty program itself.

The Transition: Over time, the banking services will transition to the EQ Bank brand at retail pavilions and ATMs.

Timeline: The acquisition is scheduled to close on July 1, 2026

As Norman1 also said, the acquisition has not yet closed and there is always a remote, but nonetheless real, chance it will not close.

There's been no acquisition. The announcement is for receiving a required approval from the regulators. The proposed transaction can still be dropped. For certain reasons, EQB would have to pay Loblaws a $40 million break fee for the transaction being dropped.

The PC Financial brand is not part of the transaction. Both Equitable Bank and PC Bank have said in December that the PC Financial branded products will become EQ Bank ones over time.

There's no contradiction. Both EQB and PC Bank continue to welcome new clients for the PC Mastercard and PC Money account. EQB doesn't plan to terminate the two products and the PC Financial web site right after the acquistion. The new PC Mastercard and PC Money account holders will be future EQ Bank account holders along with the existing PC Mastercard and PC Money account holders.

No need to troll. The title is accurate in stating [per an announcement from EQ Bank] the Minister of Finance had approved the acquisition...and noting the deal is expected to close this summer. What has happened since is that, yesterday, EQ Bank and PC Financial posted announcements that the deal will close July 1 – which is this summer. More specific but inconsequential to account holders; the details note no immediate changes to how accounts operate.

Earlier media reports stated to expect re-branding of PC Financial kiosks. That seems to be at odds with the most recent statements that users will still be able to use/open PC accounts, including credit cards, and use the PC Mobile & web apps. It could mean a slow integration or EQ might operate PCF and a distinct entity similar to CIBC/Simplii or Scotia/Tangerine, though that would seem unlikely in the long-term as both EQ & PCF are nofrills [pun intended] on-line financial institutions operated to help users save.
