For the Scotia Passport Visa card, at least, my understanding is that if your trip is longer than 3 days, you will not be covered for the 3 days unless you top up with Scotia's insurance provider (Manulife, I believe) before the trip.

Indirectly related, the medical and travel insurance options offered by many cards have exclusions for senior citizens. The absence of these ceases to be an issue while enjoying the no-fx-fee feature.

Glad to hear that tap-and-go for this card works overseas as well.

Very few cards medical and travel insurance for seniors. The most generous so far is the National Bank World Elite Mastercard with medical travel insurance for 15 days for seniors aged 65 to 75, 31 days for ages 55–65 and no coverage for 76 and above.

The Home Trust Preferred Visa had contactless capability since late 2019.

I have their current blue vertical-format card and have tapped it for contactless payment many times.

Yes, this card has physical card contactless capability. It is just not mentioned at all on their website. I received the card and it has chip and RFID chip for contactless payment.

What's so hard about inserting a card and gaining the extra security of a PIN and chip?

It is better to tap to pay than inserting the card.

Why Chip Cards Remain Vulnerable
Magnetic Stripe Fallback: Because chip cards still feature a magnetic stripe on the back for backward compatibility with older terminals, traditional skimmers can still capture your static account data if the stripe is read.

Shimming Devices: Criminals use paper-thin microelectronic devices known as "shimmers" that slide directly inside a card reader's chip slot. Unlike traditional magnetic skimmers, a shim intercepts the data passed between the chip and the terminal during an insertion.

Forced Swipes: Malware installed on compromised point-of-sale systems can trick terminals into failing the chip read attempt, forcing the machine to prompt the user to swipe the magnetic stripe instead

How to Protect Your Card
Use Tap-to-Pay: Contactless payments (NFC) transmit unique, encrypted tokens rather than static card data or raw chip information, making them much harder to intercept.

Inspect Terminals: Wiggle card slots before inserting your card, and avoid using machines that look damaged, loose, or feel unusually tight when you insert your card.

My understanding is the app will track and post transactions by category and indicate the cashback rate. Standard cashback is credited when the transaction is posted and there's no minimum redemption requirement. The bonus is paid out 2 months after the 12-month promotional period ends.

No card gives anything more than 1-2% at Costco, even then that's rare and 0.5% is the norm. It's a free card meant primarily for no-fx with some very good insurance. I fixed the Walmart factor with a no fee BMO MasterCard Cashback that pays 3% each billing cycle up to $500 in purchases. In the meantime, I'll take the double cashback bonus for a year.

Didn't drill down into the fine print, but according to the FAQ on the main page, the basic offer of cashback is available to all approved applicants (50K single, 80K household minimums), only the cash back match special offer is only for new C1 cardholders, essentially doubling it to 6%, 6%, 2% per category as alluded to by Peter.
