"With MAXA, the bank says you are 100% covered over $100K, not sure about Peoples."

I see there is a post for MAXA above that says we are 100% covered over $100k, yet according to the CDIC website they are not a member: http://www.cdic.ca/e/insuredWh…..mbers.html

If I have $150k to save, which would be better – MAXA, Peoples Trust, or Canadian Tire?
Thanks!

People's Trust 50K
MAXA 50K
ICICI 50K

Spread it out, don't keep it all in one.

There's no telling when you will get your money from CDIC if a bank collapses. Also do they keep proper records of your deposits.

The first 2 on that list I never heard of till i got here but ICICI should be rock solid.

According to the Maxa "About Us" page,

"All deposits and accrued interest are 100% guaranteed by the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation of Manitoba. "

It's funny how if your a member they email you back very quickly. Usually within the same day. But if you send them a message asking about them compared to other virtual banks, have to wait longer. Although saying that, just sent it off yesterday :)

Asked about their historical rates, so I can post them here to be added to the comparison chart.

Hey guys, I signed up for Maxa, and my account is set up. How do I transfer money from my main account (td, cibc, rbc, etc) to Maxa?

Thanks.

Hows the online banking with them? It seems somewhat unclear wether they have it or not. Is it just money transfers between credit unions or can you actually connect and online bank and see your balance online?

I just noticed Maxa lowered thier 4 and 5 year GIC rates. 4 year now 2.85% (was 3.00%)and 5 year now 3.10% (was 3.25%). They did it the same day that the Bank of Canada said they were not increasing the bank rate from 1% on June 5/12 according to thier website.
