Do we have to create a new account by a certain method to be eligible for the referral?

I'm wondering because I would like to create my account online and read a couple posts about people not getting the $20 dollars because they created their account online.

An existing ICICI member has to refer you. At which point, you will get an e-mail with a referral link. If you sign up through that referral link and you make an initial deposit of $100, both you and the person whom you referred should get $20 bonuses.
