I received a referral, and tried to sign up using the referral. After filling in the form and hitting the "I Agree" button, it pops up a message saying "Invalid Resident/Non resident status".
Has anyone else had this problem? I don't know how it figures out my resident status other than through my SIN number, but I am a Canadian Citizen (born in Canada) so I can't see how that' is a problem. The only other thing I can think of is that my phone number starts with 778 (which is a new-ish area code for the Vancouver area).
I have double-checked my information, but I keep getting this error. The guy on the phone at customer service kept assuring me that it would work if I just waited and tried "tomorrow", but I've tried over 3 days and I still get this error. This is pretty frustrating.

Maybe you should go in person to the Vancouver branch (if you're nearby).

Unless you were talking to someone at that branch already of course.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did drop by their branch when I was initially looking for information about the HiSave account. The Vancouver branch has all of the HiSave information taken down and when I asked about this they said that HiSave is a web account only and there is no branch service for it. I may as well try dropping by there anyway, but I'm not very hopeful.

I think you already know what there is to know about the bank.

I'm getting the same error, applying from Calgary. Were you able to figure out a solution… ?

After a lot of back and forth and time on the phone with them, they decided to sign me up over the phone and manually process the referral.
The over-the-phone sign-up happened only yesterday, and I received the "please send us a cheque" email. Hopefully the rest of the sign-up process, and the referral go through without any more problems.
The over-the-phone sign-up was their suggestion, so you might have to do some talking with them to make sure they have a record of the referral and your problems signing up. They gave me a SR number to refer back to the issue with.
Are you using a referral too?

Signing up with them on the phone? I didn't have a hard time with them.
