Instead of right out closing the HSBC account out of emotion, is it worth it to keep it in your arsenal and leave just a nominal amount in the account and incur no bank charges? Who knows, maybe in the near future it will become decent again.

Yes, you'll either get one of HSBC's domestic call centres in Burnaby or Markham (or Montreal if you're calling HSBC MasterCard or HSBC Finance) or one of the call centres in, I believe, Mumbia or Manila. All of HSBC's so-called "global service centres" are HSBC-owned and -operated but it still is offshoring of work.

HSBC interest rates DOWN AGAIN.
Looks like HSBC just dropped rates by .05% on highest interest accounts.
ie. CAD High Rate Savings 1.3% vs 1.35%
