I got this question via e-mail but don't know the answer. Can anybody else help?

I've emailed PC Financial over a month ago with
absolutely no response. I understand that you are not a
bank, however I hope you can shed some light on the
following:

I'm in the USA and would like to open one (1) or more
(USA currency) accounts within Ca. banks; I do not have a
CA. address. Is this possible and legal?

Well first off PC financial does not offer US dollar accounts, and second, why would you want to open US dollar account in Canada when your in the US and can open one there? This does not make sense to me…You would think they would want a Canadian dollar account with a USA address?

Not much help there I know – but just wanted to let you know PC at this time does not offer US dollar accounts

Like the previous poster said, I cannot see why you'd want a US Account at a Canadian Bank (Just the same would be if Canadians wanted a Canadian funds account at a US Bank). But you may have your reasons, so this is my suggestion.

This might be possible with RBC (Royal Bank Canada)

If you live in one of the South eastern States (Florida/Alabama/Georgia/etc) if you do not already have an account I would first open up an account with Royal Bank Centura (RBC Bank USA).

Having this account would then allow you to open up an account with Royal Bank Canada which you can connect with RBC Centura for easy/instant online/telephone transfer. Royalbank Canada does have about 2-3 different US Dollar Accounts.

Note: You maybe required to have Passport as ID when US Citizen opening the Royal Bank Canada Account.

Thanks for the answers so far! I don't really know the reasons behind the unusual situation. However, I've pointed the guy to this thread, so he and other people in similar situations will hopefully find it useful; maybe they'll also post more background information here.

The reason for this is to stop judgements from taking the money until things can be resolved the way I want and not what the courts were led to believe. I want my money safe so I can continue to pay my bills and not have someone file a suite while I'm away and win via default hence, freezing my accounts in the usa.

I'm assuming they can not freeze my accounts held in Canada y/n ?

I am with Scotiabank, and I have several customers who work in the US, hence no canadian address. This does cause some problems with online banking such as opening new accounts, as our systems will tell you to visit your local branch. However, to my knowledge even if you are outside of Canada you can open a US dollar bank account. Try 1-800-4SCOTIA to find out more info. Their main concern since 9/11 will be "are you funding terrorists?" however, so there will be many questions as to why you want to open a US account at a Canadian bank. It may not be worthwhile.
